{"id":443971,"date":"2026-01-30T23:13:08","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T23:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/443971\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T23:13:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T23:13:08","slug":"melania-amazon-doc-posters-defaced-in-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/443971\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Melania&#8217; Amazon Doc Posters Defaced in Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe $40 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-news\/amazon-paying-license-melania-trump-documentary-1235227761\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon Prime documentary<\/a> chronicling the 2024 election from First Lady <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/melania-trump\/\" id=\"auto-tag_melania-trump\" data-tag=\"melania-trump\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Melania Trump<\/a>\u2019s point of view drops today, and Los Angeles \u2014 along with pretty much the rest of the country \u2014 wants nothing to do with it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tShortly after Trump\u2019s second victory, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/amazon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_amazon\" data-tag=\"amazon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a> reportedly paid a record-setting $40 million for the rights to produce a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/documentary\/\" id=\"auto-tag_documentary\" data-tag=\"documentary\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">documentary<\/a> on the first lady, one of the first major contributions to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2025\/08\/18\/the-number\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> estimated $4 billion<\/a> the Trump family has made milking the presidency for cash over the course of the past year. Viewers hoping for a sober, even vaguely honest look at the behind-the-scenes life of the president\u2019s third wife should lower their expectations now. According to a January <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/01\/25\/politics\/melania-trump-documentary-test\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> from CNN, Mrs. Trump was granted full editorial control over the project, influencing everything from how she was portrayed to the film\u2019s marketing \u2014 not that that\u2019s going well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the entertainment capital of the world, promotional materials \u2014 including posters and signs at bus stops \u2014 for Melania have been defaced with Hitler mustaches, devil horns, and crude graffiti. The Los Angeles Metro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-01-29\/la-metro-relocates-buses-with-melania-ads-after-vandalism\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">acknowledged<\/a> on Thursday that, \u201cout of an abundance of caution, it had rerouted multiple buses that had been decked out in advertisement for the documentary \u201cto areas where we were not observing that vandalism.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a statement to the Los Angeles Times, a spokesperson for LA Metro described the defacement of Melania-related content throughout L.A. as \u201cextensive and severe.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tPerhaps most notably, members of the activist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/art\/\" id=\"auto-tag_art\" data-tag=\"art\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">art<\/a> group Indecline \u2014\u00a0best known for a series of grotesque, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/culture\/culture-features\/naked-trump-statues-meet-anarchist-artists-behind-emperor-has-no-balls-249522\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">naked Trump<\/a> statues dubbed \u201cThe Emperor Has No Balls,\u201d unveiled across the country in August 2016 \u2014\u00a0made some, uh, let\u2019s call them \u201cedits\u201d to a massive promotional billboard for the film in Culver City. The group spray painted the image of the first lady \u2014 sitting on a chair in profile to the camera \u2014 to look like she was taking a shit on an American flag.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re calling it \u2018Melania Gives a Shit About America?\u2019 That\u2019s the working title of the campaign,\u201d a spokesperson for Indecline told Rolling Stone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWe have a 25-year history of climbing up on advertisements all over the country and doctoring them up in a number of ways, [because] we really do give a shit about this place,\u201d they added. \u201cMelania being an immigrant herself, and ironically, being married to the one that\u2019s overseeing the kidnapping of immigrants and also the executions of U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIf there was a Melania documentary about her experience as an immigrant in this country, and what\u2019s particularly happening now under her husband\u2019s administration, I think that\u2019s the one we\u2019d actually want to see,\u201d they said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn effect, it seems not many people are interested in seeing Melania. The film will be released primarily via streaming on Amazon Prime, but its limited run in theaters has found virtually no audience. Theaters around the country have screened the film to less than a handful of viewers. An analysis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/we-found-2-theaters-with-sold-out-melania-opening-day-screenings\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">by Wired<\/a> found that out of 1,400 premiere day showings of the film, only two were sold out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBehind the scenes, the documentary has even managed to alienate members of the production staff. The film was directed by Trump\u2019s newest Hollywood fixation: Brett Ratner, who in 2017 was accused of sexual misconduct or assault by six different women. (He has denied the allegations.) The president recently returned from the global economic forum in Davos, where the nation\u2019s historic allies and economic partners declared it was time to disentangle themselves from the chaos of the United States.
