{"id":44484,"date":"2025-08-04T11:50:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-04T11:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/44484\/"},"modified":"2025-08-04T11:50:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-04T11:50:13","slug":"campers-repeated-cries-spark-rescue-mission-but-he-was-singing-songs-by-infamous-rock-band","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/44484\/","title":{"rendered":"Camper&#8217;s &#8216;repeated cries&#8217; spark rescue mission \u2014 but he was singing songs by infamous rock band"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>He just wanted to be a big rock star.<\/p>\n<p>Rescue teams in British Columbia responded to what they thought was a camper in distress, but the screams they heard in the mountainous forest turned out to be an outdoorsman belting out his favorite Nickelback songs.<\/p>\n<p>The man had been solo camping the Boulderfields near Central Okanagan, a popular destination for bikers and rock climbers in the province, when two hikers called 911 after hearing what they described as \u201crepeated cries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.04489796;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36727241\" width=\"616\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/thursday-evening-central-okanagan-search-109173777.jpg\" alt=\"Search and rescue truck on a gravel road.\" class=\"wp-image-36727241\"  \/> Central Okanagan Search &amp; Rescue<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue crew happened to be out in the woods training nearby when the calls came in, and immediately started looking for the imperiled nature lover, deploying their drone team and enlisting two Royal Canadian Mounted Police to assist in the effort.<\/p>\n<p>As the search teams neared the sound of the bleating echoing through the darkened woodlands, they heard \u201cfaint yelling \u2026 but couldn\u2019t make out what was being said,\u201d they described in a statement online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas it \u2018help\u2019? Or worse, Nickelback?\u201d the snarky post read.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out the camper was \u201csinging his heart out to the trees, blissfully unaware that the acoustics of the Boulderfields had turned his tent-side concert into an accidental distress signal,\u201d the teams wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wasn\u2019t in trouble,\u201d said COSAR Search Manager Duane Tresnich. \u201cUnless you count his singing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>COSAR noted that its rescue services are provided free of charge, adding, \u201cand the money you save could be spent on singing lessons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"36727240\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/canadian-rock-band-nickelback-featured-109174054.jpg\" alt=\"Nickelback performing live on stage.\" class=\"wp-image-36727240\"  \/> AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Nickelback, the much-maligned Canadian alt-rock group that got its start in Alberta, is known not only for selling over 50 million albums worldwide, but also as something of a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/09\/10\/nickelback-says-being-a-pop-culture-punchline-really-sucked\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pop-culture punchline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The band even made a documentary in 2023, \u201cHate to Love: Nickelback\u201d about spending two decades as the \u201cmost hated band in the world,\u201d despite their mega-success by any objective measure, with eight songs hitting Billboard\u2019s Mainstream Rock chart including \u201cHow You Remind Me\u201d and \u201cPhotograph.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"He just wanted to be a big rock star.
