China\u2019s Xiaohui Li defeated Diede de Groot in straight sets to claim the women\u2019s wheelchair final and win her maiden Grand Slam singles title on Saturday at Melbourne Park. Li easily defeated her well-decorated Dutch opponent, who had returned to Kia Arena after hip surgery last year, winning in just 50 minutes with scores of 6-1, 6-2.<\/p>\n
At only 19 years old, Tokito Oda\u2019s victory over the third seed at Melbourne Park makes him the second man ever to win four consecutive men\u2019s wheelchair singles majors, joining Japanese legend Shingo Kunieda, who astonishingly won 12 in a row starting from 2007.<\/p>\n
Oda’s victory marks his second AO crown and his eighth major title overall, bringing him within two titles of Britain’s Alfie Hewett. Now firmly established as the world No.1, Oda is on track to approach Kunieda\u2019s record of 28 men\u2019s wheelchair singles Grand Slam titles.<\/p>\n
Oda also secured the doubles title, teaming up with Argentinian Gustavo Fernandez for his second Grand Slam doubles victory.<\/p>\n
