Iqaluit\u2019s amateur hockey association has joined leagues from across Canada to create The Great Canadian Jersey.<\/p>\n

Or five of them, to be exact.<\/p>\n

The designs, which include the Iqaluit Blizzard logo, are part of the National Hockey League and Rogers\u2019 This is Our Game campaign and meant to be \u201ca symbol of national unity,\u201d said hockey broadcaster Rogers Jan. 23 in a news release.<\/p>\n

\u201cJerseys were donated and sourced from across Canada \u2014 it was important that every province and territory was represented,\u201d said\u00a0Claudia Frutti, a spokesperson for Rogers, in an email.<\/p>\n

Donations came in from children\u2019s and youth hockey leagues, minor pro leagues, adult recreational and oldtimers hockey teams, and all seven Canadian NHL teams.<\/p>\n

Patches cut from the sweater of the Iqaluit Blizzard \u2014 the name used by boys and girls hockey teams in the city \u2014 will be included in all five jerseys.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a wonderful initiative and it\u2019s great to see Nunavut being included,\u201d said Nunavut Premier John Main on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHockey\u2019s important to us, whether it\u2019s the oldtimers or the youngest children on the ice. [It\u2019s] Canada\u2019s game and Nunavut\u2019s game too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Designer Cameron Lizotte took the submissions and made five different jerseys using a collage design.<\/p>\n

The Blizzard patch will appear at different location on each of the campaign\u2019s five jerseys. One, shown in promotional material featuring Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, appears on the back of the right side of the collar.<\/p>\n

Other players wearing the jerseys in the campaign include Josh Morrisey of the Winnipeg Jets, Macklin Celebrini from the San Jose Sharks, Brad Marchand of the Florida Panthers, and Marie-Philip Poulin of the Montreal Victoire in the Professional Women\u2019s Hockey League.<\/p>\n

They are expected to don the jerseys in the coming weeks as part of a national advertising campaign.<\/p>\n
