DENTON, Texas \u2013\u00a0The UNT men’s golf team opens its spring schedule Sunday at the Compadres Collegiate in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The nine-team field will play 54 holes at Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club, a 6,701-yard, par-72 layout, from Sunday to Tuesday.<\/p>\n
This weekend marks UNT’s first competitive action since October 13-14 when it placed fourth at the Everett Buick GMC Classic. The Mean Green shot 10-under as a team there for their highest placement of the 2025 fall semester. Leading the charge was Blake Keen<\/a>, who carded a 12-under 204 and had the best finish of his career in third.<\/p>\n Keen looks to recreate that momentum down in Mexico, where he’ll be joined in the UNT lineup by Alex Huang<\/a>, Noah Blaickner<\/a>, Mitchell Maier<\/a> and Rayhan Latief<\/a>. Joe Stover<\/a> is also set to compete as an individual.<\/p>\n Huang was a key piece for the Mean Green this fall, starting in all four tournaments and compiling a team-leading 71.75 stroke average. He also shot par-or-better in eight of his 12 rounds played and added a top-10 finish at the Trinity Forest Invitational. Meanwhile, Maier matched Huang’s 71.75 stroke average in his first semester competing at the collegiate level and is poised to have an impactful spring.<\/p>\n Blaickner averaged 72.66 strokes per round throughout his four starts in the fall, while Latief joins the Mean Green lineup for the third time this season.<\/p>\n The playing field in Mexico includes Western Carolina, Morehead State, Drake, ULM, UTSA, Bellarmine, Northern Colorado and UTRGV, who is serving as the event’s host.
