Well, maybe it\u2019s just incompetence, and not the weaponized variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Jason Kelce<\/a> admitted on his podcast \u201cNew Heights<\/a>,\u201d which he co-hosts with his brother, Travis Kelce, that he loves it when his wife Kylie Kelce<\/a> bugs him to do things around the house.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I respond to, really well, is nagging,\u201d the former Philadelphia Eagles center admitted 27 minutes into the episode<\/a>. \u201cPlease nag the fuck out of me!\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cTell me to get my lazy ass up, and take the goddamn trash out. If you tell me to take the trash out, I\u2019m not going to be like, \u2018Oh, I can\u2019t believe she\u2019s telling me to take the trash out.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, you\u2019re right. I should be doing that. OK, I\u2019m sorry.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

Kelce went on to explain that he needs his wife to nag him because otherwise, he\u2019ll get \u201ccaught in my own thoughts and forget to do things,\u201d causing him to procrastinate.<\/p>\n

The former NFL player said that his penchant for pestering likely stems from his sports background.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like coaching. I\u2019ve been coached my whole life. I want people to tell me. I need that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kelce emphasized, however, that he would never dream of nagging his wife to do anything.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never ever, and I will never ever, tell Kylie to do something around the house, because, I don\u2019t know, she does enough,\u201d he said of his spouse, with whom he shares four young children.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf something doesn\u2019t get done, it\u2019s like, yeah, well, I should be helping out on this. Tell me what I can do because I am worthless unless you tell me that.\u201d <\/p>\n

Kylie Kelce, however, isn\u2019t as enthusiastic about her husband\u2019s \u201cpro-nagging\u201d stance, the former professional athlete said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s like, \u2018Jason, I don\u2019t want to tell you to do these things.\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018I get that. I\u2019m just like, you know, it\u2019s not going to get done unless you tell me to do it,\u2019\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Constantly reminding a spouse to do household chores is part of the mental load or invisible labor<\/a> women often disproportionately carry in heterosexual relationships. It may also include organizing playdates, making doctor\u2019s appointments, tackling the grocery list and maintaining the family\u2019s emotions.<\/p>\n

\u201cMental load, also commonly called, \u2018invisible work,\u2019 has evolved to mean the behind-the-scenes stuff that keeps a home and family running smoothly, although it\u2019s hardly noticed and is rarely valued,\u201d Eve Rodsky, author of \u201cFair Play: A Game-Changing Solution for When You Have Too Much To Do (and More Life To Live)\u201d explained to CNN in 2023<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe problem is that, while important and often meaningful, these acts take significant amounts of time, and women are doing most of them,\u201d Rodsky added. <\/p>\n

Rodsky said that the best way to even out the mental load in a heterosexual relationship is for men to take \u201cownership of a task from start to finish\u201d without expecting their wives to be sentient calendar notifications.<\/p>\n

Although Jason Kelce may need some nudging to do his chores, he also said that he has little respect for men who complain about nagging from a partner and who fail to do chores at all.<\/p>\n
