This was after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/billie-eilish-song-of-the-year-wildflower-grammys-2026-1235503771\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Billie Eilish called out<\/a> Donald Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/bad-bunny-billie-eilish-ice-2026-grammy-awards-1235509461\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">immigration crackdown<\/a> while accepting Song of the Year, and after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/shaboozey-dedicates-grammy-2026-win-immigrants-speech-1235509136\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shaboozey dedicated his Grammy<\/a> win (for \u201cAmen,\u201d a collaboration with Jelly Roll) to the children of immigrants.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAnd though certainly not as declarative, Jelly Roll did seem to touch on America\u2019s fractured political climate during his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/jelly-roll-grammys-speech-jesus-political-party-1235508910\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">own acceptance speech<\/a>. Speaking of the importance of religion in his life, Jelly Roll said, \u201cI believed that music had the power to change my life and God had the power to change my life. Jesus is for everybody. Jesus is not owned by one political party\u2026. Jesus is Jesus. Anybody can have a relationship with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut in response to the question in the press room, he said people shouldn\u2019t \u201ccare to hear my opinion,\u201d before making a self-deprecating crack: \u201cYou know, I\u2019m a dumb redneck. I haven\u2019t watched enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe country star went on to say he\u2019s largely been checked out of politics, not only in recent years, but for much of his life. Noting his 18-month stint without a phone, and subsequent break from social media, he added, \u201cI hate to be the artist aesthetic, aloof, but I\u2019ve become so disconnected from what\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThat disconnect, he continued, has long been a feature of his life. \u201cI grew up in a house insane pandemonium,\u201d Jelly Roll said. \u201cI didn\u2019t even know politics were fucking real until I was in my mid-twenties in jail\u2026. When you grow up in a drug addict household, do you think we have common calls about what\u2019s happening in world politics? We\u2019re just trying to find a way to survive, man, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tStill, Jelly Roll insisted he had \u201ca lot to say\u201d and planned to say it \u201cin the next week.\u201d He continued: \u201cEverybody\u2019s going to hear exactly what I have to say about it in the most loud and clear way I\u2019ve ever spoken in my life. So I look forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhile Jelly Roll has largely steered clear of politics, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/jelly-roll-fentanyl-senate-hearing-1234944948\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has addressed Congress<\/a> about the fentanyl crisis in the past, and inadvertently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/country-music-nashville-goes-maga-trump-essay-1235476378\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stoked some speculation<\/a> about his political leanings after the 2024 election, when he was was seen meeting then-president-elect Donald Trump at a UFC match in New York City. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/episode\/6G9XAlzTz3fd20vRhbTvup?go=1&amp;sp_cid=514e23cd831633acf662a44c21e96b6b&amp;t=3622&amp;utm_source=embed_player_p&amp;utm_medium=desktop&amp;nd=1&amp;dlsi=fe368f5ae16c4795\">Addressing<\/a> the moment afterwards, Jelly Roll insisted he was \u201cnot political,\u201d and was only honored to meet the president-elect.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cDude, there\u2019s not a chance in hell that I\u2019m not going to meet the president-elect,\u201d he said. \u201cIf I got a call to meet Joe Biden, I would have stopped at any point to meet him.
