{"id":450781,"date":"2026-02-03T08:23:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T08:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/450781\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T08:23:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T08:23:09","slug":"shedeur-sanders-likes-todd-monkens-vibe-and-says-he-has-a-connection-with-the-browns-new-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/450781\/","title":{"rendered":"Shedeur Sanders likes Todd Monken&#8217;s &#8216;vibe&#8217; and says he has a &#8216;connection&#8217; with the Browns&#8217; new coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">SAN FRANCISCO (AP) \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/shedeur-sanders\/1038954\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/shedeur-sanders\/1038954\" target=\"_blank\">Shedeur Sanders<\/a> is excited to play for new Browns coach Todd Monken.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The rookie quarterback said he felt a \u201cconnection\u201d after meeting with Monken at the team facility after the longtime offensive coordinator was hired last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m thankful I was able to meet Coach, that he accepted that time that I could meet with him and all I can do is work,\u201d Sanders said Monday before practice for the Pro Bowl Games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Monken was Baltimore\u2019s offensive coordinator the past three seasons. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/lamar-jackson-377837\/377837\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/lamar-jackson-377837\/377837\" target=\"_blank\">Lamar Jackson<\/a> was the AP NFL MVP in 2023 and first-team All-Pro in 2024 under Monken.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s truly great that he was able to coach Lamar and he was able to accomplish everything that he was able to accomplish in his life and his career,\u201d Sanders said. \u201cI feel like we definitely have a connection just in talking to him and seeing kinda like his vibe and he has a great vibe about him.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Despite starting just seven games for Cleveland, the fifth-round pick was selected as a replacement for the league\u2019s flag football all-star game between the two conferences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cYes, I was surprised,\u201d Sanders said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like I was just sitting there expecting it. &#8230; I\u2019m not going to lie, a lot of the time I\u2019m taking it day by day, having that method. &#8230; If you would tell me that this was going to happen at the beginning of the year, I couldn\u2019t say that that would\u2019ve happened. It\u2019s amazing. I\u2019m truly thankful for it. I get to come here and be around all these great players and coaches. It\u2019s surreal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sanders was expected to be a top-five pick in the draft last year but slipped to 144th. The Browns selected quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/dillon-gabriel\/1038767\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nfl\/player\/dillon-gabriel\/1038767\" target=\"_blank\">Dillon Gabriel<\/a> ahead of him in the third round.
