The Old Achimotan Association (OAA) has successfully organised a one-day Inter-School Alumni Tennis Competition at the Accra Lawn Tennis Club, as part of activities leading up to Achimota School\u2019s Centenary celebration in 2027.<\/p>\n

The maiden edition brought together alumni from seven prestigious schools, including Achimota School, Mfantsipim School, Adisadel College, Wesley Girls\u2019 High School, Holy Child School, Presbyterian Boys\u2019 School (PRESEC) Legon, and Aburi Girls\u2019 School.<\/p>\n

The tournament aimed to foster social interaction, networking, and healthy rivalry among old students. Matches were played across several categories, including Ladies\u2019 Singles, Men\u2019s Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Doubles events.<\/p>\n

In the Ladies\u2019 Singles, Wesley Girls\u2019 High School defeated Holy Child School 6\u20134, while Achimota School secured a 6\u20132 victory over Aburi Girls\u2019 School. In the Men\u2019s Singles, PRESEC, Legon beat Adisadel College 6\u20133, 7\u20135, and Mfantsipim School overcame Achimota School 6\u20130, 6\u20134.<\/p>\n

Other notable results included PRESEC defeating Adisadel College 6\u20131, 6\u20132 in the Men\u2019s 45 years and above category, while Mfantsipim School edged Achimota School 6\u20131, 0\u20136. In the Men\u2019s Seniors, PRESEC beat Adisadel College 6\u20131, 6\u20131, with Mfantsipim School achieving the same score over Achimota School.<\/p>\n

In the Mixed Doubles, the PRESEC\u2013Aburi Girls\u2019 pairing defeated Mfantsipim School\u2013Wesley Girls\u2019 High School 6\u20133. Aburi Girls\u2019 School won the Ladies\u2019 Doubles, beating Holy Child School 6\u20133, while Wesley Girls\u2019 High School defeated Achimota School 6\u20132. In Men\u2019s Doubles, PRESEC beat Mfantsipim School 6\u20133, and Adisadel College recorded a 6\u20132 win over Achimota School.<\/p>\n

At the end of the competition, Adisadel College emerged winners of the Men\u2019s Doubles, defeating PRESEC in the final, while PRESEC and Aburi Girls\u2019 School claimed the Mixed Doubles title after overcoming Achimota School.<\/p>\n

Speaking after their victory, Mixed Doubles winner Felix Kabutey of PRESEC said, \u201cSports help train the body, strengthen the will, and foster team spirit. Sporting activities also promote physical fitness, mental toughness, healthy competition, and stress management.\u201d <\/p>\n

His partner, Madam Reginal Osei Boadi from Aburi Girls\u2019 School, expressed gratitude for the win and promised a stronger showing in future editions.<\/p>\n

Captain of the Men\u2019s Doubles winning team from Mfantsipim School, Abeiku Yorkson, noted, \u201cTeam sports teach lessons beyond the classroom, including sacrifice, trust, coordination, fair play, and respect for rules and authority.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chairman of the Fundraising and Sponsorship Committee, Leslie Awere-Kyere, explained that the competition is part of efforts to revive the popular Triangular Games that were prominent in the 1970s and early 1980s. <\/p>\n

He added that the event is being piloted with alumni from that era, with plans to expand into a larger inter-school competition.<\/p>\n

Trophies were awarded to outstanding players and teams across the various categories.
