{"id":451837,"date":"2026-02-03T20:10:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T20:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/451837\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T20:10:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T20:10:08","slug":"cbs-mayor-says-increased-demands-on-health-care-system-needs-to-be-addressed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/451837\/","title":{"rendered":"CBS Mayor says Increased Demands on Health Care System Needs to be Addressed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/mayor-darrin-bent-lis.jpg\" class=\"header-image\" alt=\"CBS Mayor says Increased Demands on Health Care System Needs to be Addressed\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">CBS Mayor Darrin Bent (submitted)<\/p>\n<p>The mayor of CBS says government has a real challenge ahead in addressing growing health care needs throughout the province. <\/p>\n<p>Darrin Bent was responding to the provincial government\u2019s decision to cancel plans for a new hospital complex at Kenmount Crossing due to cost. <\/p>\n<p>Government estimates the price tag for the major hospital and road and water infrastructure project to be in the range of $10 billion, something Minister Barry Petten says the province simply can\u2019t absorb at this time. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, government plans to renovate St. Clare\u2019s, and develop an urgent care clinic in CBS.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Bent understands affordability concerns, and while he believes the public wants a new hospital, the real challenge for government will be to address growing health care needs. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGenerally speaking I think we\u2019re going to see an increase in health care offerings throughout the province regardless because the need is there.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He cited concerns about wait times in particular. \u201cIt needs to be addressed, how it needs to be addressed, well, they\u2019re going to have to figure that out.
