Barnes was named an All-Star reserve during Sunday\u2019s win, recording 19.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game this season.<\/p>\n
Head coach Darko Rajakovic will be joining the fifth-year forward in Los Angeles for the festivities, and will coach Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and the other international stars on Team World.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s never one thing with Scottie,\u201d said Rajakovic, who is now in his third season as Toronto\u2019s head coach. \u201cI think he\u2019s more efficient, and he\u2019s done a better job in transition. I think he\u2019s doing a better job of making plays and finding his teammates. He\u2019s better in pick and rolls, running and scoring and defensively.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe just does it all. He\u2019s such a unique player, and I think you\u2019re going to continue to see growth in all those areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barnes, the 2022 Rookie of the Year, is now an All-Star for the second time in his career after previously being added to the event as an injury replacement in 2024.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know how hungry [Barnes] is and how much he wants to win with this team,\u201d Rajakovic said. \u201cI know how much work he puts in. So the next thing for him is he\u2019s going to be elected as a starter. I\u2019m starting the campaign for that right now.\u201d <\/p>\n
Somewhat surprisingly, Raptors forward Brandon Ingram was not selected among the reserves despite leading Toronto with 21.9 points per game.<\/p>\n
With the addition of Ingram this season, the Raptors have already matched their win total from a season ago and are now just 2.5 games back of second place in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was disappointed Brandon didn\u2019t make it,\u201d Barnes told reporters after the win over Utah. \u201c[Ingram] has done so much for us this year. Look at the difference from last year to this year. He has been instrumental to our success.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Ingram will not be an All-Star this time around, the Duke product will still look to help Toronto finish strong before the break, beginning with Wednesday\u2019s tilt against Minnesota.<\/p>\n
The Raptors will be without Jakob Poeltl once again while he continues to work his way through a back injury.<\/p>\n
The Austrian big man has not played since Dec. 21 with the ailment and still remains without a timeline.<\/p>\n
