{"id":453657,"date":"2026-02-04T16:52:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T16:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/453657\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T16:52:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T16:52:08","slug":"ita-names-svajda-no-1-singles-player-in-the-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/453657\/","title":{"rendered":"ITA Names Svajda No. 1 Singles Player In The Nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        Story Links&#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<\/p>\n<p>                     DALLAS (SMU) \u2014\u00a0SMU Men&#8217;s Tennis junior <a href=\"https:\/\/smumustangs.com\/sports\/mens-tennis\/roster\/trevor-svajda\/15116\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15116\" target=\"_blank\">Trevor Svajda<\/a> was ranked No. 1 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Singles Rankings announced by the association on Wednesday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThis is the junior&#8217;s\u00a0first career top-ranking, as he became\u00a0the first Mustang to be ranked No. 1 since Genius Chidzikwe in 2000.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSvajda was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, after\u00a0resuming his dominant streak by winning both of his singles matches in straight sets on the weekend. He defeated TCU&#8217;s No. 6 Duncan Chan (6-4, 6-1) on Saturday before claiming victory over Tulsa&#8217;s Nikita Volonski (6-1, 6-2) on Sunday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe California native has won all five of his singles matches this spring. He has not dropped a single set in all five matches.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSvajda has two ranked wins to start the spring season. Aside from Chan, he has a win over Mississippi State&#8217;s No. 54 Benito Sanchez Martinez (6-2, 6-3) in the season opener.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIn the fall, Svajda finished runner-up at the NCAA Singles Championship, becoming the first Mustang to do so since Richey Reneberg in 1986.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nSvajda is set to take on the Dallas Open at The Star in Frisco next week. The junior earned an invite to the main draw of the ATP 500 tournament. Draws will be announced on Friday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Mustangs await draws for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
