{"id":453669,"date":"2026-02-04T16:58:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T16:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/453669\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T16:58:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T16:58:08","slug":"sources-kings-demar-derozan-havent-discussed-buyout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/453669\/","title":{"rendered":"Sources: Kings, DeMar DeRozan haven&#8217;t discussed buyout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3978\/demar-derozan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DeMar DeRozan<\/a> remains with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/sac\/sacramento-kings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sacramento Kings<\/a> past the trade deadline, they have zero plans to buy him out of his current contract, team sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Following a report that mentioned DeRozan as a &#8220;strong possibility&#8221; to become a buyout candidate in the next month, league sources said there have not been any discussions with DeRozan&#8217;s side about that path.<\/p>\n<p>DeRozan is in the second season of a three-year contract signed in the summer of 2014. If he is kept past the deadline, the partial guarantee gives the Kings a chance to explore his trade market or opt to shed a chunk of salary this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Veteran teammates, coaches and executives continue to praise DeRozan&#8217;s professionalism behind the scenes, as he has remained productive and positive despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/47530219\/can-sacramento-kings-fixed-next-trade-deadline\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">regime change<\/a> and losing environment he didn&#8217;t initially pledge to join.<\/p>\n<p>DeRozan is averaging 19.2 points in 51 games this season.
