Late-night hosts dug into Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s deflections from the Jeffrey Epstein<\/a> files and the backlash to Bad Bunny\u2019s Super Bowl half-time show.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> kept the focus on the Epstein files on Tuesday, because it\u2019s \u201ca story that Donald Trump wishes would go away. But it won\u2019t just go away. It\u2019s the kind of story that makes headlines, and he knows that. So what he does is he bombards us with a dozen other crazy things to try to flood the zone.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s only so much we can take in,\u201d he continued, \u201cso to distract us, right now what he\u2019s doing is he\u2019s suing everybody.\u201d That includes the Internal Revenue Service \u2013 \u201cthe IRS that he runs\u201d \u2013 for $10bn. \u201cHe\u2019s planning to negotiate a settlement with himself,\u201d said Kimmel. \u201cIf any other president did this, it would be the biggest story of their whole four years in office. For Trump, it doesn\u2019t even crack the top five this month.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later in his monologue, Kimmel turned his attention to a contentious White House press conference, where the CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins asked Trump about his justice department\u2019s refusal to bring any charges related to the Epstein files. \u201cWhat would you say to the survivors who feel they haven\u2019t gotten justice?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

Trump snapped back: \u201cYou are the worst reporter. CNN has no ratings because of people like you.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen you smile,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019ve known you for 10 years. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen a smile on your face \u2026 You know why you\u2019re not smiling? Because you know you\u2019re not telling the truth. And you\u2019re a very dishonest organization, and they should be ashamed of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel said in response: \u201cWe are now at the \u2018women-should-smile-more\u2019 stage of his presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI\u2019m trying to think of a worse time to tell a woman to smile more than when that person is a reporter asking about the Epstein victims. I can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert<\/a> looked into the backlash to Bad Bunny\u2019s upcoming Super Bowl half-time show. \u201cThe rightwing media have had their panties in a bunch\u201d over the booking for months, he explained, because the Puerto Rican superstar excluded the continental US from his most recent tour out of fear that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could raid the venues, and sings entirely in Spanish.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Athletic, one anonymous NFL player said: \u201cI always think it should be an American. I think they\u2019re trying too hard with this international stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI agree \u2013 and I bet Bad Bunny agrees too, because he\u2019s an American,\u201d Colbert retorted, before pointing out that in the past, the half-time show has welcomed many non-American artists, including the Canadian singer Shania Twain, the UK\u2019s Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney, and the band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, \u201cwho of course hails from the country known as the late 90s, a lawless place where squirrel nut zippers and spin doctors roamed the land, smashing pumpkins with their flaming lips. And many of them did not speak English \u2013 people are still trying to decide what language Eddie Vedder is singing.\u201d<\/p>\n

In protest and in deference to the Trump administration, the rightwing group Turning Point USA will stage an alternative half-time show starring Kid Rock, titled the All-American Halftime Show.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, if you want to attend this alternate half-time show, you can\u2019t,\u201d said Colbert, because it is unclear what venue will host the show. \u201cWhich I believe is fitting,\u201d he added, \u201cbecause Kid Rock is often unclear on what venue he\u2019s in\u201d.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> recapped Trump\u2019s recent meeting with Narendra Modi, India\u2019s prime minister. After the meeting, Trump said that Modi was \u201cone of my greatest friends\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaid Modi: \u2018Thank you, that\u2019s the saddest thing I\u2019ve ever heard. We\u2019ve talked like three times,\u2019\u201d Meyers joked.<\/p>\n

In a new interview, Trump claimed that Republicans should \u201cnationalize the voting\u201d, because \u201cTrump believes there was no way this wasn\u2019t fraud,\u201d Meyers quipped next to a photo of Bad Bunny winning the Grammy for album of the year, the first time a Spanish-language album has won the night\u2019s top award.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend, Trump said that the biggest problem in the US was that Democratic politicians are \u201csoft on crime\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs opposed to Trump, who couldn\u2019t be more into it,\u201d Meyers joked next to a photo of Trump\u2019s mugshot.<\/p>\n

And according to an analysis from the New York Times, the new batch of Epstein files released on Friday \u2013 more than 3m documents \u2013 contained 5,300 references to Trump. \u201cOf course, that doesn\u2019t prove anything.
