CLEVELAND, Ohio \u2014 Lots of people have gotten a lot of mileage out of calling Jose Ram\u00edrez MLB\u2019s most underrated player.<\/p>\n
Well, that\u2019s become a lot harder to do.<\/p>\n
Ram\u00edrez, who just signed a seven-year $175 million extension with the Guardians, was named MLB\u2019s No.1 ranked third baseman by MLB Network on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
In rating MLB\u2019s \u201cTop 10 Third Basemen Right Now,\u201d Ram\u00edrez finished No.1 ahead of the following:<\/p>\n
No. 2. Max Muncy, Dodgers. No. 3. Alex Bregman, Cubs.No. 4 Matt Chapman, Giants.No. 5 Manny Machado, Padres.No. 6 Junior Caminero, Rays.\u00a0No. 7 Bo Bichette, Mets.No. 8 Isaac Paredes, Astros.\u00a0No. 9 Eugenio Su\u00e1rez, Reds.No. 10 Austin Riley, Braves\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has no weaknesses at the third base position,\u201d said Mike Lowell, MLB Network analyst and former third baseman. \u201cHe\u2019s one of the best base runners in the game, plays great defense. He obliterates left-handed pitching, but he still hits well off right-handed pitching from the left side. There\u2019s nothing he doesn\u2019t do great.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust a Hall of Fame resume he\u2019s putting together. It\u2019s a really enjoyable to watch because I think physically, he doesn\u2019t fit as that prototype third baseman, not as tall, not as built as maybe some of the other guys. But the numbers come to play.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lowell added, \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s a position in all the years where we\u2019ve done the Top 10, where there\u2019s been such a big gap between No. 1 and No.2.\u201d<\/p>\n
MLB Network bases its rankings on offensive and defense metrics over several seasons. Traditional and Statcast statistics are used.<\/p>\n
Ram\u00edrez, who helped the Guardians win their third AL Central title in the last four years in 2025, hit .283 (168 for 593) with 34 doubles, 30 homers and 85 RBI. For the second straight season, he went 30-30 with 30 homers and 44 steals in 51 attempts.<\/p>\n
The 33-year-old switch-hitter is a seven-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger winner who has finished in the top six of the AL MVP voting seven times, including one second-place finish and three third-place finishes.<\/p>\n
MLB Network just recently ranked Ram\u00edrez fifth among baseball\u2019s top 100 players headed into the 2026 season.
