We\u2019ve known for about a year at this point<\/a> about the U.K.\u2019s plan to import Saturday Night Live\u00a0across the Atlantic, with an official British version going into production under Lorne Michaels\u2019 oversight. (It\u2019s actually part of a long tradition of countries trying to import\u00a0SNL, usually to extremely limited success; of the 14 countries that have tried, only a handful\u2014Egypt, Germany, Italy\u2014went any kind of multi-season distance, and only South Korea\u2019s version is currently on the air.) Right out the gate, we\u2019d note that the sheer amount of British sketch comedy out there at the moment threatens to make Saturday Night Live\u00a0less of a unique beast than it is in the States, where its sheer institutional presence and rarity in network TV is probably its most potent marketing tool. Even so, there\u2019s a fascinating question lurking at the heart of the plan, one that Sky TV has now officially answered: Which British comedians do you cast to start a brand new Saturday Night Live?<\/p>\n

Rather than rattle off a list of credits for the show\u2019s just-announced cast\u2014Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi, and Paddy Young\u2014we figured it\u2019d be better to see them in motion, so we\u2019ve collected clips of as many of the 11 newcomers as we can. We have also, because we are incapable of not\u00a0doing this, noted which of them have done a season of\u00a0Taskmaster. (It\u2019s Ania Magliano and Emma Sidi, natch.)<\/p>\n

First up: Hammed Animashaun, who American audiences might actually know from his role on Prime Video\u2019s\u00a0Wheel Of Time adaptation. (He played the tree guy, Loial.) Here he is (briefly) in his recent U.K. comedy series\u00a0Black Ops:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Next: Ayoade Bamgboye, who won Best Newcomer at Edingburgh in 2025, here in a sketch for Channel 4\u2019s\u00a0Comedy Playground:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Then we\u2019ve got Scottish stand-up Larry Dean:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

And Celeste Dring, one half of comedy duo Lazy Susan:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

George Fouracres, a stand-up best known as one-third of the comedy group Daphne:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

There\u2019s Ania Magliano, a stand-up, writer, and person we know from\u00a0Taskmaster:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Annabel Marlow, well-known as a musical comedian:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Al Nash, best known as an online comedy sketch guy:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Jack Shep, who\u2019s done a few TV roles but seems to be mostly prominent on TikTok<\/a>. (Apologies for the lack of embed.)<\/p>\n

Emma Sidi, a comedian and stand-up with a focus on character work who is also, yes, a former\u00a0Taskmaster\u00a0contestant:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

And Paddy Young, a stand-up who was a finalist for the BBC New Comedy Award in 2023:<\/p>\n

Per\u00a0Variety<\/a>,\u00a0Saturday Night Live U.K.\u00a0is set to debut on March 21. The show will reportedly feature a structure extremely similar to the NBC version, including celebrity hosts and musical guests,\u00a0Weekend Update, and a variety of sketches.<\/p>\n
