The Los Angeles Angels<\/a> are adding a lot of interesting talent this offseason. While they’re not landing superstars like Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette, Kyle Schwarber, or Dylan Cease, they’ve added a lot of underrated talent.<\/p>\n

Their offseason moves have consisted of under-the-radar players who have struggled in recent years, but have shown very high upside when at their best. Their trade for Grayson Rodriguez might be the best example.<\/p>\n

And now, deeper into the offseason, according to Chris Cotillo of Masslive.com<\/a>, the Angels are closing in on a deal to sign former Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> and Cincinnati Reds<\/a> lefty reliever, Brent Suter.<\/p>\n

“Free agent signing: Angels are closing in on a major league contract with veteran lefty Brent Suter, per sources,” Cotillo reports. “Another bullpen reinforcement for them.”<\/p>\n

Suter is a 36-year-old left-handed relief pitcher. He’s spent the majority of his 10-year MLB career with the Brewers and the Reds, though he did spend one year with the Colorado Rockies<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n

In his big-league career, Suter has a 3.57 ERA across 348 games, 47 starts, and 83 game finishes. He’s not a closer by trade, evidenced by his three career saves.<\/p>\n

But Suter is a solid depth reliever who can eat up innings. He’s pitched at least 65 innings the last five seasons, and has also gone as high as 101.1 innings in a season.<\/p>\n

Across his big-league career, Suter has a 122 ERA+, which is a very solid mark, indicating he’s 22 percent better than the league average pitcher in his MLB career.<\/p>\n

While his 101 ERA+ and 4.52 ERA in 48 games this past season for the Reds wasn’t the best, he’s still a solid reliever and worth signing to a free agent deal.<\/p>\n

With Kenley Jansen signing with the Detroit Tigers<\/a>, the Angels needed more bullpen help, and he will join a new-look bullpen alongside Kirby Yates, Robert Stephenson, Drew Pomeranz, Ben Joyce, Jordan Romano, and many others.<\/p>\n
