\n Perched along the Santa Catalina Mountains, the Catalina Hills community where Nancy Guthrie lives is known for outdoor activities<\/a>, not crime scene investigations.\n <\/p>\n \n Homes in the desert community are spaced out and tucked away behind desert foliage, according to Nancy Guthrie\u2019s neighbor, Jeff Lamie, and the quality of life is, as the 84-year-old mother of \u201cToday\u201d show anchor Savannah Guthrie has described, \u201claid back and gentle.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cI like to watch the javelinas eat my plants,\u201d Savannah Guthrie once said, referring to pig-looking animals that are often seen in the area.\n <\/p>\n \n The family relocated to Arizona from Australia, where Savannah was born, and where Nancy\u2019s husband, Charles Guthrie, worked as a mining engineer.\n <\/p>\n \n In 1988, Charles died of a heart attack when Savannah was just 16 years old, a moment that the anchor told NBC<\/a> tore her \u201cwhole world apart.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n Savannah, the youngest of three siblings, stayed in Arizona for college, attending<\/a> the University of Arizona. Her sister, Annie Guthrie, didn\u2019t wander far either.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cWe had a spoken or unspoken pact that on the weekends, even though we were college girls, one of us would always stay home on one of the weekend nights so that my mom wouldn\u2019t be alone,\u201d Savannah said<\/a> in 2017.\n <\/p>\n
