Late-night hosts looked into Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s excuses for not attending a Super Bowl where he would be booed and the dubious audience scores for the Melania documentary.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

With the Super Bowl just days away, Seth Meyers<\/a> looked into why Donald Trump, usually one for attention, does not plan to be in attendance. \u201cGiven Trump\u2019s love of football and attention, you might have expected him to show up to the Super Bowl on Sunday, especially since he went to last year\u2019s Super Bowl,\u201d the Late Night host said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

But Trump has told reporters that he won\u2019t attend the game because it will be played in Santa Clara, California, outside San Francisco, which is \u201cjust too far away\u201d, though he acknowledged that he had received \u201cgreat hands [at] the Super Bowl. They like me,\u201d he said, adding that he \u201cwould go if, you know, it was a little bit shorter\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meyers was not convinced. \u201cIt\u2019s too far away? You know you have your own plane, right? Like, we weren\u2019t expecting you to pile into a station wagon with Eric, Don Jr and Melania.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump\u2019s excuse doesn\u2019t track,\u201d Meyers continued. \u201cThis is the same guy who has done multiple trips to the Middle East and Asia, but San Francisco is too far away? Or is it because they won\u2019t give you a dumb gift for making the trip? Because we know you love a dumb gift.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder if it\u2019s because there\u2019s another reason he might not want to attend a football game in the current political climate,\u201d he added before showing a clip of Trump being loudly booed by the crowd at an NFL game at Maryland\u2019s Northwest Stadium in November.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course Trump is worried about getting booed,\u201d Meyers noted. \u201cHis approval ratings are at all-time lows, his party is getting shellacked everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert<\/a> continued to track the fallout from the latest batch of Epstein files. \u201cTrump is so eager for this to go away,\u201d he said, that on Wednesday, when asked about the files at the Oval Office, the president answered: \u201cI think it\u2019s really time for the country to get on to something else. Now that nothing came out about me \u2026 but I think it\u2019s time now for the country to maybe get on to something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes sir, I think it\u2019s time to turn the page,\u201d Colbert mocked. \u201cUnfortunately, you\u2019re on the next page too. You\u2019re on like 5,000 of the pages.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump really wants us to stop talking about his former best friend\u2019s international sex crime documents,\u201d Colbert added, \u201cwhich is why when CNN\u2019s Kaitlan Collins followed up on that initial question,\u201d Trump lashed out and said: \u201cYou are the worst reporter. CNN has no ratings because of people like you.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen you smile,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cI\u2019ve known you for 10 years. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen a smile on your face \u2026 You know why you\u2019re not smiling? Because you know you\u2019re not telling the truth. And you\u2019re a very dishonest organization, and they should be ashamed of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Colbert noted, \u201cnot only is that disgusting and misogynistic, but it\u2019s also a bit of a tell \u2013 \u2018Uh, Mr President, what do you say to the accusations that you mistreat women?\u2019 \u2018That girl\u2019s fugly and I hate her.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

But according to JD Vance, Trump\u2019s comment that Collins didn\u2019t smile enough was \u201cactually, like, so perceptive\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got a point,\u201d Colbert quipped. \u201cNo, folks, he\u2019s got a point! It is perceptive of the president to recognize that when he\u2019s in the room, women don\u2019t smile.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

And on Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live!, the host fixated on the \u201crigged outcome\u201d dogging our times: the box office performance of the Melania documentary, which made over $7m on its opening weekend, against a budget of $75, including marketing.<\/p>\n

\u201cSources say there were signs that blocks of tickets to Melania were purchased and then distributed to Republican activists and senior citizens\u2019 homes,\u201d said Kimmel, citing a Daily Beast report. \u201cWhich are really the same thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cImagine those poor senior citizens,\u201d he added. \u201c\u2018Good morning, Mrs Greenwald. Here are your heart pills and here are your liver pills. And here\u2019s a pair of tickets to Melania.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel noted that the film has a 5% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is \u201cvery low. To put that in perspective, that is 1% lower than Gigli,\u201d he said in reference to the 2003 Bennifer box-office bomb.<\/p>\n

But \u201cthe audience score is 99% positive, which is 1% higher than the Godfather,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd I\u2019m sure Donald J Corleone had nothing to do with that at all.\u201d<\/p>\n
