A man takes his used Mercedes-Benz in for what he expects to be a routine oil change. Unfortunately, the mechanic finds several signs of past technician malpractice under the hood.<\/p>\n
TikTok creator Cxllmedez (@cxllmedez) is a Toronto mechanic who posted the video about the situation on Jan. 24.<\/p>\n
He starts the video by saying, “If you\u2019re thinking about buying a 10+-year-old Mercedes-Benz, pay attention.”<\/p>\n
Man Brings In 10-Year-Old Mercedes-Benz For Oil Change<\/p>\n
The TikToker explains, “This vehicle right here came in for just an oil change. Upon putting it in the air, you can see\u2026 we just have a complete mess.”<\/p>\n
The Mercedes is clearly leaking oil.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“As you can see, someone took it upon themselves to apply [what] looks like shower caulk on this oil pan,” Cxllmedez says. “Now, this oil pan has a plastic seal. No sealant needs to be applied.”<\/p>\n
That\u2019s not the only issue Cxllmedez found with the Mercedes; the customer said he recently purchased it used.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We had an aftermarket drain plug, which this does have a rubber seal on it,” he says. “It was the incorrect size, so we were leaking oil from there as well.”<\/p>\n
Not only that, but he says there were also incorrect bolts and washers throughout the system, causing additional leaks.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We also went ahead and resealed these upper cam covers. As you can see, they do look a lot cleaner now,” he adds.<\/p>\n
To conclude the video, Cxllmedez offers a bit of advice for car owners.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“The main thing with this is: be careful where you take your vehicle to get worked on,” he says. “If you\u2019re not going to take it to the dealership, take it to somewhere that is trusted.”<\/p>\n

It can be a good idea to buy a 10-year-old luxury vehicle<\/a>, but it really depends on a combination of factors, including value, mileage, and maintenance and accident history. Car buyers really have to shop around, get used vehicles inspected by a third-party inspector, and use their own best judgment to get a good deal.<\/p>\n Some drivers might be attracted<\/a> to the look, feel, and drivability of older luxury vehicles. However, CarMax points out that those vehicles also come with serious drawbacks<\/a>, including expiring warranty coverage, higher maintenance costs, and outdated electronics.
