That\u2019s the stark reality for the <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/womenshealth.gov\/a-z-topics\/endometriosis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:more than 6 million women;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:2;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">more than 6 million women<\/a> in the U.S. living with endometriosis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">There\u2019s a reason it often goes underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed for so long: There\u2019s no simple test for it and symptoms can manifest differently for different women or overlap with other health problems. The only way to know for sure that you have it is to go through <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/diseases\/10857-endometriosis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:laparoscopic surgery;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:3;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">laparoscopic surgery<\/a>, which allows doctors to see if there\u2019s endometrial tissue growing where it shouldn\u2019t be. \u201cThe gold standard in diagnosis is surgical pathology,\u201d <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/askdrgreves.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Dr. Christine Greves;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:4;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Dr. Christine Greves<\/a>, an ob-gyn at the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies in Orlando, Fla., tells Yahoo. But surgery is invasive and time-consuming, and for many women, it isn\u2019t an option they can afford.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But what if there was an easier, less invasive way? Thanks to advancements in technology, that\u2019s becoming an option. Innovative diagnostic tests \u2014 some newly developed, others currently in the works \u2014 are using menstrual blood to look for <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:5;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.niehs.nih.gov\/health\/topics\/science\/biomarkers#:~:text=A%20biomarker%20(short%20for%20biological,monitor%2C%20or%20predict%20disease%20risk.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:biomarkers;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:5;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">biomarkers<\/a> of endometriosis, as well as other reproductive conditions like uterine fibroids. These tests are as simple as inserting a tampon or putting a smart pad in underwear, allowing women to get answers quickly and painlessly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While these tests aren\u2019t mainstream just yet, doctors say they hold a lot of promise for the future.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"496\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/53abd530-6f12-11f0-aec7-5b7cb3f1184a.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The problem: Women with endometriosis and other reproductive health conditions can spend years in pain and discomfort before finding out what the problem is. Even once these conditions are suspected, surgery may be needed to get a definitive diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">By the numbers: It can take <a data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ama-assn.org\/delivering-care\/population-care\/what-doctors-wish-patients-knew-about-endometriosis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:four to 11 years;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">four to 11 years<\/a> to get an endometriosis diagnosis. Many see <a data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/medicine.yale.edu\/news\/yale-medicine-magazine\/article\/endometriosis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:four or five doctors (or more);cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">four or five doctors (or more)<\/a> before their pain is taken seriously, according to Yale Medicine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The solution: Two newer, cutting-edge products are aiming to take the guesswork and long waits out of diagnosing endometriosis and similar reproductive health conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a data-i13n=\"cpos:8;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/qvin.com\/endometriosis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Qvin\u2019s Q-Pad;cpos:8;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Qvin\u2019s Q-Pad<\/a>, which is FDA-cleared and has been dubbed \u201ca pad with a purpose,\u201d features an embedded and removable strip to collect and analyze period blood. Once a sample has been collected, the strip is removed and sent to a lab for testing. The process of using Q-Pad is easy: A doctor orders the test, the patient uses it at home and results are delivered through the Qvin app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe Q-Pad is a non-invasive way to get access to endometrial tissue, which comes naturally and regularly,\u201d Dr. Sara Naseri, chief executive officer and cofounder of <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:9;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/qvin.com\/research\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Qvin;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:9;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Qvin<\/a>, tells Yahoo. \u201cThis will enable women to get diagnosed faster and non-invasively. Because the Q-Pad is a modified menstrual pad, women can self-collect in the comfort of their own homes, which also means more women can get access to early diagnosis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"384\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4ea12d00-6ced-11f0-b7fe-22a4f0c26449.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In a similar vein, the <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:10;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.nextgenjane.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:NextGen Jane Smart Tampon;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:10;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">NextGen Jane Smart Tampon<\/a>, which is not yet cleared by the FDA, is a diagnostic tampon that collects menstrual blood to look for biomarkers of reproductive health conditions. \u201cOur tampon-based system looks at molecular signals in tissue you naturally shed during your period and evaluates whether you might have endometriosis,\u201d <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:11;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.nextgenjane.com\/about-us\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ridhi Tariyal;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:11;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Ridhi Tariyal<\/a>, chief executive officer of NextGen Jane, tells Yahoo. \u201cWe are trying to make diagnosis as simple as mailing in your tampon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NextGen Jane is still in development and currently has several <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:12;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.nextgenjane.com\/clinical-studies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:clinical trials;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:12;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">clinical trials<\/a> that are open for enrollment. \u201cThis product could change how people interact with their health,\u201d Tariyal says. \u201cIt is hard to chase down symptoms you are having when you and your doctor are underpowered \u2014 meaning we collectively don&#8217;t have the tools to answer questions easily.\u201d Tariyal says that women \u201cintuitively know\u201d when their monthly cycles may be a sign that something is off. \u201cWe are amplifying that intuition by going deeper and looking for actual molecular signals in a tampon,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ob-gyns applaud the tests. \u201cI love that people are thinking of ways to diagnose endometriosis and other conditions that don\u2019t require surgery,\u201d Greves says. Women\u2019s health expert <a data-i13n=\"elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:13;pos:1\" class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/drwider.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Dr. Jennifer Wider;elm:context_link;elmt:doNotAffiliate;cpos:13;pos:1;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\">Dr. Jennifer Wider<\/a>, cohost of the Open Wider podcast, tells Yahoo that the tests are a \u201cpretty smart idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe shedding of the uterine lining provides the chance for people to collect on their own and send it to a lab,\u201d Wider says. \u201cThe scientists can then look at cell markers and molecular signals and potentially speed a diagnosis of endometriosis and other diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">There\u2019s no getting around the fact that surgery is invasive, but Greves says the procedure can allow doctors to remove endometrial adhesions that form with endometriosis and ultimately help to reduce pain. \u201cFinding out by tampon or pad will let someone know if they have a condition, but it won\u2019t help with the pain,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Wider encourages checking in with your health care provider if you\u2019re dealing with pain or other symptoms of endometriosis.
