{"id":457932,"date":"2026-02-06T16:38:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T16:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/457932\/"},"modified":"2026-02-06T16:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T16:38:09","slug":"los-angeles-fc-signs-canada-midfielder-stephen-eustaquio-on-loan-from-porto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/457932\/","title":{"rendered":"Los Angeles FC signs Canada midfielder Stephen Eust\u00e1quio on loan from Porto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Los Angeles FC announced the signing of Canada midfielder Stephen Eust\u00e1quio on loan from Porto on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/soccer\/article\/lafc-the-front-runners-to-sign-eustaquio\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/soccer\/article\/lafc-the-front-runners-to-sign-eustaquio\/\">TSN\u2019s Matt Scianitti reported earlier in the week<\/a> that a move was close with the player expected to travel to Los Angeles by week\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Eust\u00e1quio, 29, is signed through the end of June with an option to buy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cStephen is a top-class midfielder with extensive international experience who knows what it takes to win and lead at the highest level,\u201d LAFC general manager John Thorrington said in a statement. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to add a player of his quality, and we\u2019re confident he will have an immediate, positive impact on the group both on and off the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A native of Leamington, Ont., Eust\u00e1quio was in his fifth season at Porto, but found his playing time limited in a World Cup year. He made 16 appearances across all competitions, but only eight in the league. With Porto, Eust\u00e1quio has won a Primeira Liga title, three Ta\u00e7as de Portugal and the 2023 Ta\u00e7a de Liga.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Internationally, Eust\u00e1quio has been capped 54 times since his senior debut in 2019. He has four goals in a Canada shirt. Eust\u00e1quio was a member of the Canada squad at both the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 Copa America.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">LAFC opens its 2026 MLS campaign on Feb. 21 with a visit from the MLS Cup champions, Inter Miami.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Los Angeles FC announced the signing of Canada midfielder Stephen Eust\u00e1quio on loan from Porto on Friday.
