{"id":459143,"date":"2026-02-07T05:54:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-07T05:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/459143\/"},"modified":"2026-02-07T05:54:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T05:54:09","slug":"canada-womens-ice-hockey-team-at-risk-of-having-another-olympic-game-postponed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/459143\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada women&#8217;s ice hockey team at risk of having another Olympic game postponed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here we go again.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyhive.com\/vancouver\/canada-unveils-womens-olympic-hockey-roster-goldeneyes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">women\u2019s national ice hockey team<\/a> was supposed to play its first game on Thursday, before a norovirus outbreak spread through Finland\u2019s team.<\/p>\n<p>There were 14 players total for Finland who were either sick or quarantined, leaving only 10 players available for the game.<\/p>\n<p>That created one scheduling snafu, and now another\u00a0appears to be happening with Canada\u2019s next opponent.<\/p>\n<p>Canada was scheduled to play Switzerland on Saturday, but that game is also at risk of being postponed.<\/p>\n<p>The Swiss women\u2019s national ice hockey team did not partake in the Olympic Opening Ceremony <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sihf.ch\/de\/national-teams\/news#\/article\/2026-02-06\/schweizer-eishockeynationalteam-der-frauen-nimmt-nicht-an-der-eroeffnungsfeier-der-olympischen-spiele-milano-cortina-2026-teil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">after they announced<\/a> one of their players had also contracted norovirus.<\/p>\n<p>Because of that, the whole team went into isolation before the Olympic Opening Ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>If the game gets postponed, that could create some scheduling headaches for the rest of the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s game against Finland was rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, at 12:10 p.m. PT. That means they play three games in four nights between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12.<\/p>\n<p>The quarterfinals for women\u2019s ice hockey are scheduled to take place on Feb. 13.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s seemingly no spot for the game to be rescheduled if the outbreak on Switzerland\u2019s team were to spread, unless the quarterfinals were to be bumped to different dates.<\/p>\n<p>If the game against Switzerland were to be postponed, the only way to squeeze the rest of the games in would be to have Canada play a gruelling four games in four nights.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blob.iihf.com\/iihf-media\/iihfmvc\/media\/downloads\/regulations\/2024\/2024_iihf_sport_regulations.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">According to IOC rules<\/a>, Canada would have to agree to play that many games in consecutive days. You\u2019d imagine they would push back on that.<\/p>\n<p>The round robin for women\u2019s ice hockey was supposed to be finished on Feb. 10.<\/p>\n<p>As of now, only one player on Switzerland\u2019s team has contracted norovirus.<\/p>\n<p>If the game is played on schedule, it will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 12:10 p.m. PT.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Here we go again.
