U.S. Treasury yields were relatively unchanged on Friday as investors continued to assess the state of the American economy. <\/p>\n
The\u00a010-year Treasury<\/a>\u00a0yield was less than 1 basis point lower at 4.206%, while the\u00a030-year Treasury<\/a>\u00a0yield was 1 basis point lower at 4.853%. The\u00a02-year Treasury<\/a>\u00a0note yield rose more than 1 basis point to 3.495%.<\/p>\n One basis point is equal to 0.01%, and yields and prices move in opposite directions.<\/p>\n Consumer sentiment showed some improvement<\/a> on Friday, as the preliminary February reading of the University of Michigan Survey of Consumers came in at 57.3. That’s up 1.6% from January and better than the 55.0 that economists polled by Dow Jones had estimated.<\/p>\n It comes after a weaker-than-expected ADP private payrolls report<\/a> on Wednesday, and figures on Thursday showed U.S. job openings in December fell to their\u00a0lowest level since September 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n The release of the key nonfarm payrolls report<\/a> for January, originally due Friday, has been delayed until Feb. 11 due to the brief government shutdown that ended<\/a> earlier this week. <\/p>\n The report is expected to show a gain of 60,000 jobs for the month, after a 50,000 increase in December, according to economists surveyed by Dow Jones.
