MALIBU, Calif. – No. 24 Pepperdine men’s tennis (5-3) fell to No. 15 UCLA (4-2) by a final score of 4-2 in another top-25 matchup at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. \nThe Waves came up just short in the doubles point. Aleksa Pisaric<\/a> and Lasse Poertner<\/a> defeated the Bruins’ Aadarsh Tripathi and Spencer Johnson 6-3 at the No. 1 position, but Edward Winter<\/a> and Hugh Winter<\/a> were denied at the No. 2 position, 6-2.

\nThe decisive match in doubles was Pepperdine’s Maxi Homberg<\/a> and Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida<\/a> versus UCLA’s Bengt Reinhard and Rudy Quan on court three. The match went to a tiebreak, and UCLA prevailed by a 9-7 scoreline.

\n“Congrats to UCLA, they were better than us today in the big moments”, said Director of Tennis, Adam Schaechterle<\/a>, after the contest. “We learned a lot about who we are as a team during this five-match homestand. We have a heck of a ballclub. I expect four of the five teams we battled with to be top-15 at the end of the year. The biggest lesson I hope we take away is to not be afraid of consequences in the biggest moments. When we trust our training and focus on how we produce, the outcome takes care of itself.”

\nMoving to singles, David Fix<\/a> fell in two sets (1-6, 2-6) to Cassius Chinland on court 6, bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of the Bruins.

\nAlmeida also took care of business for the Waves, reigning victorious over Tripathi in a pair of sets (7-5, 6-4) on court five to get the Waves on the board.

\nThe Waves kept gaining momentum with Pisaric on court four, who took down Andy Nguyen in two sets (6-1, 7-5), evening the match at 2-2.
\n\u00a0
\nEdward Winter<\/a> then fell to Spencer Johnson on court one in three sets (6-1, 2-6, 4-6), putting the Bruins back ahead 3-2.
\n\u00a0
\nHomberg dropped the first set of his match (0-6) and rallied to take set two (6-3), eventually falling at the very end (4-6) on court two, which clinched the match for the Bruins.

\nLasse Poertner<\/a>, battling van Loben Sels at flight three, was down a set after falling 3-6, but rallied to win set two (6-3) and was leading 4-2 in the third set before his match was abandoned.
