They are wearing outdoor clothes and are smiling.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"530\" height=\"298\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/9190f5834fe0815258b92c7b69dcac46.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Robert and Dave Taylor (R) had the same surgery within weeks of each other [Royal United Hospitals Bath]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Two brothers who had prostate cancer surgery within weeks of each other are calling on men with a family history of the disease to get themselves checked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">David and Robert Taylor both had robotic radical prostatectomies \u2013 removal of the prostate gland \u2013 at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Robert, 67, from Saltford near Bath, had his surgery in July, while David, 70, from Midsomer Norton, followed just a few weeks later, in September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;You have a higher chance of getting prostate cancer if you have a history of that type of cancer in your family,&#8221; David said. &#8220;So if that&#8217;s you, please do get yourself a GP appointment and get checked.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Robert was attending a general check-up with a GP when he was advised to have a blood test to check for prostate conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The reading came back high so I was quickly referred to the RUH,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I spoke to my brother about it and that&#8217;s when he decided to get a test done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">David said: &#8220;Our father and uncle both had prostate cancer, so when Robert had his test done and it came back with a high reading I decided to get one done too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He added: &#8220;My reading was also high so, like Robert, I was referred straight to the RUH.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>More from Bristol<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The brothers&#8217; surgeries were carried out using the RUH&#8217;s Da Vinci surgical robot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The RUH said recovery times from the operation are now very short because the robot is extremely precise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It meant Robert was able to be sent home on the same day as his surgery and David stayed at the RUH for just one night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It was incredible to think that I&#8217;d just had major surgery and could get home the same day,&#8221; Robert said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Follow BBC Bristol on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BristolBBC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Facebook;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BBCBristol\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:X;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">X<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bbcbristol\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Instagram;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Instagram<\/a>.
