{"id":461472,"date":"2026-02-08T09:37:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T09:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/461472\/"},"modified":"2026-02-08T09:37:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T09:37:11","slug":"pureref-2-1-is-out-cg-channel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/461472\/","title":{"rendered":"PureRef 2.1 is out | CG Channel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"full-width\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/260208_PureRef21_f.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-173931\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Indie game studio and tools developer <a href=\"https:\/\/idyllicpixel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Idyllic Pixel<\/a> has released <a href=\"https:\/\/pureref.com\/blog\/pureref21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PureRef 2.1<\/a>, the latest version of its popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pureref.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reference image organisation tool<\/a> for concept art, illustration and 3D modeling.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a sizeable update, adding the option to snap images to a background grid, image batch-processing, seven new commands for manipulating images, and updates to the drawing tools.<\/p>\n<p>A more powerful way to organize reference images for concept art and CG work<br \/>Widely used by concept artists and illustrators, PureRef provides a more powerful way to manage reference images than setting up mood boards in apps like Photoshop.<\/p>\n<p>Users can drag and drop images directly into the software, scale, reposition and align them intuitively, and add text notes and drawn annotations.<\/p>\n<p>PureRef 2.1: updates to the new drawing tools<br \/>PureRef 2.1 extends the drawing toolset introduced in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgchannel.com\/2024\/05\/pureref-2-0-is-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PureRef 2.0<\/a> last year. As well as freehand annotations, users can now <a href=\"https:\/\/pureref.com\/handbook\/features\/#drawing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">draw geometric shapes<\/a>: ellipses, rectangles and straight lines.<\/p>\n<p>New background grid and Arrange Randomly option for arranging images<br \/>To help organize references, it is also now possible to display a background grid on the canvas \u2013 there are options for a full or dotted grid \u2013 and to snap images to it.<\/p>\n<p>And to foster happy accidents, there is a new <a href=\"https:\/\/pureref.com\/handbook\/images\/organize\/#randomly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Arrange Randomly<\/a> command, which places images randomly across the canvas.<\/p>\n<p>Other new commands and updates to existing tools<br \/>PureRef 2.1 also introduces six other new commands for manipulating images, including tools for duplicating images, parenting them to other images, and <a href=\"https:\/\/pureref.com\/handbook\/images\/organize\/#area\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">normalizing their area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Updates to existing tools include support for rich text in the Comment dialog and the option to lock the aspect ratio of the Crop tool.<\/p>\n<p>New batch processing tool and other workflow improvements<br \/>Other major new features include an <a href=\"https:\/\/pureref.com\/handbook\/images\/#manage-images\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">image management tool<\/a> for batch-processing images: to change their size, resolution or format.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, PureRef now displays thumbnails of recent files on a new canvas, to make it easier to pick up work; and it is now possible drag and drop images into groups.<\/p>\n<p>There are also new language editions: Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>Pricing and system requirements<br \/>PureRef 2.1 is compatible with Windows 10+, Ubuntu 20.04 Linux and macOS 10.14+.<\/p>\n<p>A Small Business license costs $49, and supports up to three users; full Business subscriptions cost $10\/month or $96\/year.<\/p>\n<p>Non-commercial Personal licenses are pay-what-want, although the Custom Amount setting on the website now defaults to $20, so the minimum contribution seems to be $7.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pureref.com\/changelog.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Read a full list of new features in PureRef 2.1 on the product blog<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pureref.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Read more about PureRef on the product website<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Have your say on this story by following CG Channel on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/cgchannel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/thecgchannel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Instagram<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/theCGchannel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">X (formerly Twitter)<\/a>.
