\n\tNetflix<\/a> released its biannual viewership report Thursday alongside its earnings<\/a>, with U.K. breakout hit \u201cAdolescence<\/a>\u201d topping the TV side and action-comedy \u201cBack in Action<\/a>\u201d starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz\u00a0landing as the most-viewed movie on the service.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe latest Engagement Report covers about 99% of the viewing of what Netflix members watched from January through June 2025. Netflix measures engagement by views, which it calculates by total hours viewed divided by runtime. Overall, subscribers watched 95 billion hours globally in the first half of 2025, up slightly from 94 billion in the year-earlier period. That 1% uptick in engagement came amid higher competition for Netflix, co-CEO Greg Peters said on the earnings interview Thursday, and he said the company expects a stronger increase in viewing for the second half of 2025 \u201cgiven the strength of our second-half slate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMore than one-third of all viewing came from non-English language titles, and 10 of the 25 most-watched series in the first half of the year were non-English, according to Netflix. <\/p>\n

\n\tLeading the pack in TV: \u201cSquid Game,\u201d the South Korean hit series, which drew 231 million views across all three seasons in the first half of the year. Its final season became our third most-watched program of the half, reaching 72 million views in just four days. Overall, drama \u201cAdolescence\u201d was the No. 1 most-watched show with 145 million views; other top-performing U.K. series included \u201cMissing You\u201d (58 million views), \u201cBlack Mirror\u201d Season 7 (31 million) and \u201cDept. Q\u201d Season 1 (25 million).<\/p>\n

\n\tOther standouts in TV were limited series \u201cZero Day\u201d starring Robert De Niro with 63 million views (No. 4 for the first half of the year), and preschool series \u201cMs. Rachel\u201d Season 1 from YouTuber Rachel Accurso<\/a> with 53 million views (No. 7).<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition, WWE \u2014 which premiered on Netflix in January \u2014 generated more than 280 million view hours across all its events, including \u201cWWE Raw.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe top three films on Netflix were originals \u201cBack in Action\u201d (165 million viewers), Tyler Perry\u2019s \u201cStraw\u201d starring Taraji P. Henson<\/a> (103 million) and \u201cThe Life List\u201d (96 million) starring Sofia Carson. Non-English language films also were popular with viewers worldwide, including \u201cExterritorial\u201d (88 million) from Germany, \u201cCounterattack\u201d (71 million) from Mexico, \u201ciHostage\u201d (57 million) from the Netherlands, \u201cAd Vitam\u201d (70 million) and \u201cK.O.\u201d (44 million) from France, \u201cBullet Train Explosion\u201d (33 million) from Japan and \u201cJewel Thief \u2013 The Heist Begins\u201d (23 million) from India.<\/p>\n

\n\tNetflix noted that nearly half of viewing for originals in the first half of 2025 came from titles that debuted in 2023 or earlier. Those included series \u201cOrange Is the New Black,\u201d \u201cOzark\u201d and \u201cMoney Heist,\u201d which each had over 100 million hours viewed in the first half of 2025, while movies \u201cRed Notice,\u201d \u201cLeo\u201d and \u201cWe Can Be Heroes\u201d each had more than 20 million views.<\/p>\n
