Supergirl, based on one of my favorite comic book stories of the past decade, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, stars Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, and Matthias Schoenaerts in a super-powered story about displacement, revenge, and redemption. Recently, DC Studios held a test screening of the upcoming film from director Craig Gillespie, with reactions revealing details about Momoa’s Lobo, Kara Zor-El’s interplanetary adventure, and how the movie compares to James Gunn’s Superman (you can also catch the new Krypto-heavy Puppy Bowl trailer above).

How does Supergirl compare to Superman?

According to @AxelTalksFilm, the cinematography is “an upgrade compared to Superman’s,” and there’s an action-packed hallway scene that’s said to stand tall alongside those seen in Daredevil and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Like the film’s source material, the story has a darker tone than last year’s Superman, focusing on human trafficking in a world overcome by violence. Still, audience members said that Supergirl presents a “perfect balance” or “humor, darkness, and lightness.”

Is Krem of the Yellow Hills a fun villain?

Meanwhile, crowds appear divided about the film’s villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills. Some emerged from the movie saying Krem is “extremely menacing and a tremendous villain,” while others said he’s “lame” and “underwhelming.”

How much of Momoa’s Lobo do we get?

As for Jason Momoa’s Lobo, fans can expect his part in the film to be “substantial” and “crucial to the ending.” Fun Fact: Lobo does not appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Tom King cut Lobo from the final draft, but Gunn and company picked him up off the cutting room floor and added him back to the story.

Regarding Supergirl versus Superman, an insider attending the screening said, “It’s basically bits of Superman 2025, [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3], Logan, Man of Steel and The Last of Us mashed into one film without the R-rated elements. Whoever’s seen it would probably understand my film choices. Krypto is Rocket, Kara is Joel/Logan.”

Krypto heads to Puppy Bowl XXII

In addition to details about Supergirl from the recent screening, Krypto fans should know that Superman’s super-pup is a part of today’s Super Bowl pre-game Puppy Bowl XXII festivities! While some think Krypto could have an advantage over other pups, let’s not forget that this is the real world, and that Krypto helps raise awareness for doggie adoption! He’s a good boy.

        Subscribe to our weekly newsletter

Get the latest movie and TV news, first looks, reviews, and interviews, straight from the JoBlo crew to your inbox.

While most of the world waits for Marvel to drop Avengers: Doomsday in December, my most anticipated superhero…

[27
49,48,75,867,869,337,871
0":"post-462588","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-movies","8":"tag-ca","9":"tag-canada","10":"tag-entertainment","11":"tag-james-gunn","12":"tag-milly-alcock","13":"tag-movies","14":"tag-supergirl
["GET
