Jordan Henderson<\/a> says he is determined to prove he can still cut it in the Premier League<\/a> after joining Brentford<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old England midfielder has completed a free transfer to the Bees and signed a two-year contract after leaving Ajax.<\/p>\n

The former Liverpool title-winning captain left Anfield in 2023, making a controversial move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter a couple of years away I still have that fire to come back and play in the Premier League<\/a> again,\u201d he told Brentford<\/a>\u2018s social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously it\u2019s the best league in the world, with the best players. So it\u2019s a big challenge but one I\u2019m keen on doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was given the opportunity by Brentford<\/a> and after speaking with the club it became an easy decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Henderson has been reunited with former Reds players Caoimhin Kelleher<\/a>, Sepp van den Berg<\/a> and Fabio Carvalho<\/a> at the Gtech Stadium, while he also played against new Bees boss Keith Andrews early in his career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think when I was at Sunderland<\/a> I might have played against him a few times. He\u2019s another reason I wanted to come,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaoimhin isn\u2019t in yet but I\u2019ve spoken to Sepp and Fab a bit, along with the rest of the lads. It\u2019s nice to have a few familiar faces, for sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re great lads that I got on really well with at Liverpool, so that\u2019s been nice for us to settle in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Henderson will come up against boyhood club Sunderland<\/a> at the end of August and will return to Liverpool in October.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth clubs mean a lot to me. I owe a lot to Sunderland<\/a> and then Liverpool was a huge part of my life,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut when I\u2019m playing against them there\u2019s no friends, we know that in football.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andrews moved for Henderson after losing Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we became aware of Jordan\u2019s availability, it was a pretty simple decision,\u201d Andrews told the Bees\u2019 website.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is. He\u2019s still phenomenally fit and he\u2019s still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the void of experienced players leaving the building \u2013 Christian Norgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee \u2013 it was important to replace that.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League<\/a> years. He\u2019s been at the forefront of driving for titles and Champions Leagues at a fantastic football club.<\/p>\n
