This means stormy space weather may evolve into a possible northern lights viewing experience this week.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>At this time, the department hasn&#8217;t issued a geomagnetic storm warning, like the recent one responsible for significant viewing opportunities in the Lower Mainland.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"screenshot-2026-02-04-at-111043-am\" id=\"file-4296613\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/screenshot-2026-02-04-at-111043-am.png;w=960.png\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhoto: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association Space Weather Prediction Center&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) says &#8220;highly active auroral displays&#8221; may be visible overhead on Thursday\u00a0(Feb.\u00a05)\u00a0in places such\u00a0as\u00a0Yellowknife,\u00a0Iqaluit,\u00a0Juneau, Edmonton, Winnipeg\u00a0and Thunder Bay. They may also\u00a0be &#8220;visible low on the horizon from Seattle, Des Moines, Chicago, Cleveland, Boston and Halifax.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Since the dancing lights may be visible in Seattle, low on the horizon, you might\u00a0have an even better chance of\u00a0seeing them in Metro Vancouver.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The university&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverisawesome.com\/local-news\/this-map-shows-when-the-northern-lights-are-expected-to-glow-above-metro-vancouver-map-4705359\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">online aurora monitor map<\/a> shows what regions the aurora&#8217;s green glow will likely reach, and other areas where it is less likely. And\u00a0a brief description below the map shows the aurora activity on that\u00a0particular day.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"northern-lights-vancouver-weather-february-2026jpg\" id=\"file-4296611\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/northern-lights-vancouver-weather-february-2026jpg.png;w=960.png\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhoto: University of Alaska Fairbanks&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\nMetro Vancouver weather forecast includes clear nights&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>While Mother Nature doesn&#8217;t always cooperate, it appears the stage will be set for optimal viewing on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says\u00a0that a strong ridge of high pressure is building, which will keep the region dry for a few days this week.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures are expected to climb to highs of 14 C and 13 C, before dropping slightly to 10 C on Friday. The seasonal average for this time of year is 8 C. The clearing skies will allow temperatures to cool significantly overnight to lows of 5 C and 4 C,\u00a0though they are a few degrees above the seasonal nighttime average of 1 C.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Following a G4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm warning on Jan. 19, locals captured\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverisawesome.com\/local-news\/metro-vancouver-northern-lights-photos-2026-11764582\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">impressive jewel tones<\/a> in the dark sky overnight, despite the fog advisory working against them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The dancing lights could paint the sky with hues of green, purple and pink.
