Another Super Bowl has come and gone, and other than Bad Bunny, the main reason to watch it was trailers for new movies throughout 2026. Not all of this year\u2019s heavy hitters<\/a> were in attendance, but we\u2019ve compiled our list of the best, worst, and no-shows of the assorted bunch. Let\u2019s get to it.<\/p>\n

The Best <\/p>\n

Project Hail Mary:\u00a0Unlike most of the films that attended the big game, Project Hail Mary\u00a0got a whole trailer<\/a> to itself, and it looks dazzling. Ryan Gosling in space with an alien buddy would be an easy enough sell, but the visuals and scale of it all are just icing on the cake. Hard to not be excited every time we learn more about this.<\/p>\n

Disclosure Day:\u00a0The creepy croaking sounds and foreboding curiosity<\/a> that were present in the first trailer are back here, and they still work. Even if this hadn\u2019t given us a small tease of an alien ship arriving on Earth, this would still be a great tease just how intriguing it is without feeling proud of its own mystery. It thinks it\u2019s got the goods, and we\u2019ll see if that\u2019s true come July.<\/p>\n

Super Mario Galaxy:\u00a0Nintendo and Illumination double-dipped<\/a> this weekend, with one promo days before the Super Bowl and another the night of. Good thing they both have something to offer, whether you\u2019re a fan of the baby versions of Mario and Luigi, or wanted to see Yoshi eat and egg an enemy.<\/p>\n

Minions & Monsters:\u00a0Even if you aren\u2019t a fan of the\u00a0Despicable Me\u00a0mascots, the idea of them accidentally summoning monsters<\/a> and meeting off-brand Cthulu is a funny idea. You\u2019ll probably be sick of their babbling the moment your kids try to imitate it, but at least it\u2019ll look good when you\u2019ve got to see it in theaters at least twice.<\/p>\n

The Worst <\/p>\n

The Mandalorian & Grogu:\u00a0We\u2019re sure to get a more substantial marketing push for\u00a0Mandalorian & Grogu\u00a0in the months ahead, but the surprise ad<\/a> released last night just wasn\u2019t it. It feels and looks like a late holiday commercial and, unlike the other game spots featured, can\u2019t answer an easy question that\u2019s on people\u2019s minds: \u201cWhat is this movie about, and why should I care about it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Scream 7: This movie\u2019s marketing hasn\u2019t really been hitting since the first trailer, and the spot released pre-Super Bowl<\/a> doesn\u2019t help in that regard. Outside of one cool visual of a victim strung up in a theater, nothing feels like it\u2019s got a particular \u201coomph\u201d to it\u2014but maybe we\u2019ll be eating (stabbing?) our words when\u00a0Scream 7\u00a0comes at the end of the month.<\/p>\n

Supergirl:\u00a0This one\u2019s technically cheating, since\u00a0Supergirl\u00a0had a commercial during the Puppy Bowl rather than the Super Bowl itself. But other than seeing the wee baby Krypto, it was an otherwise standard ad using footage that was already in its first trailer, which feels like a missed opportunity to remind people that Krypto\u2019s not just a dog; he\u2019s also as chaotic as his owner.<\/p>\n

The Missing in Action <\/p>\n

Mortal Kombat II:\u00a0Like\u00a0Mando & Grogu,\u00a0this one\u2019s also a little over three months out and with not much marketing to show for it. It\u2019d be nice to see more of these fighting friends again and what new moves they\u2019ve learned, particularly since it\u2019s apparently looking good enough to warrant early development on a third one.<\/p>\n

Superheroes (as a concept): Learning ahead of time that cape flicks would be absent from the Big Game did prepare us for this. Still, it\u2019s surprising to think about how not a single cape or heroic costume was present at the big game, considering Daredevil comes back to TV in March and Spider-Man won\u2019t be that far behind in the summer.<\/p>\n

Toy Story & Moana:\u00a0Disney showed a lot of restraint not flooding the Super Bowl with its big June and July movies,\u00a0Toy Story 5<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Moana<\/a>. The reason for that, other than they\u2019ve got time?\u00a0Hoppers<\/a>,\u00a0which has had pretty good early reactions so far, and when it comes out March 6, you\u2019ll be able to see for yourself.<\/p>\n
