{"id":465873,"date":"2026-02-10T13:23:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T13:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/465873\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T13:23:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T13:23:14","slug":"driver-charged-after-pedestrian-struck-and-killed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/465873\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver charged after pedestrian struck and killed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Toronto police say a 25-year-old driver is facing charges after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Etobicoke earlier this month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It happened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2026\/02\/04\/pedestrian-critical-after-being-hit-by-driver-in-etobicoke\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cp24.com\/local\/toronto\/2026\/02\/04\/pedestrian-critical-after-being-hit-by-driver-in-etobicoke\/\">at around 7:15 p.m. in the area of Dundas Street West and Acorn Avenue<\/a>, near Kipling Avenue, on Feb. 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said a 28-year-old man was crossing Dundas Street when he was struck by a grey Toyota Rav 4 that was heading east.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe Rav 4 proceeded through the intersection and struck the pedestrian,\u201d police said in a news release issued Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The pedestrian was rushed to hospital but later died. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The driver remained at the scene, police said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to investigators, 25-year-old Joseph Daniel Alvarado Portillo, of Mississauga, has now been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.
