Restomods, even high-end ones, feel increasingly common these days; the ranks of Porsche-based reimaginings alone could fill a book. RENNtech\u2019s new one, however, has managed to capture our attention by combining the iconic Mercedes-Benz C126 platform with an equally iconic V-12 engine. Only a dozen will be created worldwide, and each will have a custom interior crafted for the buyer.<\/p>\n
RENNtech was formed back in 1989, which was the tail end of Mercedes-Benz C126 platform production; the car rolled off the assembly line from 1981 to 1991. During the subsequent 37 years, RENNtech has developed high-performance products for just about every Mercedes-Benz AMG model ever made. Now, they may have just outdone themselves with the SEC V12 Widebody Sledgehammer.<\/a><\/p>\n The beloved platform is fitted with an M120 V-12. If that engine name sounds familiar, there is a good reason for that; the M120 powered the Le Mans-winning CLK GTR<\/a>, as well as the Pagani Zonda<\/a> supercar. But as impressive as those engines were, the one in the Sledgehammer is even bigger: it’s been punched out to a full 7.5 liters and develops 660 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. There are no turbochargers or hybrid assist of any kind, either. This is a raw, naturally aspirated V12 engine.<\/p>\n The engine provides the thrust, but the body provides the lust. The classic C126 platform has been fully restored from the frame up for Sledgehammer duty. The widened stance looks aggressive, but is also functional, and the integrated ducting is not there for just looks; it’s designed to enhance aerodynamics, cooling, and high-speed stability. Further enhancing the menacing look are custom-forged wheels and flared arches.<\/p>\n Customer deliveries are expected to begin in 2027. No pricing has been announced but if you are interested, you should plan on writing a sizable check.
