{"id":468194,"date":"2026-02-11T14:39:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T14:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/468194\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T14:39:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T14:39:11","slug":"inverkeithings-ruby-price-competed-at-boxings-golden-girl-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/468194\/","title":{"rendered":"Inverkeithing&#8217;s Ruby Price competed at boxing&#8217;s Golden Girl event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Ruby Price, 14, recently travelled to Sweden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dunfermlinepress.com\/sport\/25803420.inverkeithing-boxer-ruby-price-set-golden-girl-event-sweden\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">to participate in the annual Golden Girl Boxing Championships<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  More than 500 competitors took part at the event, which has been running since 2009, in the city of Bor\u00e5s, from Friday January 30 to Sunday February 1.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It is open to all categories and levels and Beath Boxing Club member Ruby, a current silver medallist at Boxing Scotland&#8217;s Golden Gloves Championships, fought in the under-17 50kg category.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In her first major competition overseas, after beginning to train with the club around 18 months ago, she was drawn to face a four-time Irish champion, Allana Berry, in the semi-finals.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ruby lost out in the bout, with her opponent, who went on to win a silver medal, awarded all three rounds by the judges.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  However, Beath head coach, Jon-Paul Hynd, is confident that the experience gained, which included sparring with some top European competitors, will prove to be positive.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;She didn&#8217;t get the decision, but the coaches that were out there were delighted with her performance,&#8221; he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;It was good preparation for some upcoming tournaments that we&#8217;ll be entering her into.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;She was really happy with the experience. She&#8217;s never been to anything like that before, so she&#8217;s learned a lot, and she&#8217;ll push on from there.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;She got to spar with girls from across Europe. It&#8217;s all good learning for her. She did really well in the sparring so the coaches are really happy with her.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Also competing at the event was Dunfermline boxer, Aoife O&#8217;Halloran, a member of Alloa Boxing Club, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dunfermlinepress.com\/sport\/25824686.dunfermline-boxer-wins-golden-girl-championship-title-sweden\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">who won a gold medal<\/a> in her category.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  On Saturday, Ruby was victorious in a bout in Carlisle, and is set to appear on their home show, which takes place on Friday evening.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  That is taking place ahead of the start of Boxing Scotland&#8217;s Golden Gloves Championships, and Jon-Paul added: &#8220;There&#8217;ll be 16 bouts in total, involving clubs from England, all around Scotland, and we&#8217;ve got boxers travelling from Jersey.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;So, with it being the week before the Golden Gloves Championship, the timing of that is to prepare the guys specifically for that tournament.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ruby Price, 14, recently travelled to Sweden to participate in the annual Golden Girl Boxing Championships.
