Charlie Woods, 17, announced in an Instagram post<\/a> on Tuesday that he has committed to play collegiate golf at Florida State University.<\/p>\n

\u201cExcited to announce my commitment to play golf at Florida State University \u2014 go Noles!\u201d Charlie captioned the post.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations Charlie. I\u2019m so proud of you on entering this next chapter of your life,\u201d Tiger commented.<\/p>\n

Woods joins Russell at FSU<\/p>\n

Currently a junior at Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Fla., the younger Woods is ranked 21st in the American Junior Golf Association rankings. Charlie will be joining fellow AJGA-ranked player Miles Russell at FSU after he committed last year to play there, per New York Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Charlie and Russell will be part of FSU\u2019s class of 2027.<\/p>\n

Trey Jones, head coach and director of golf at FSU, pushed to recruit Charlie, watching the player shoot a round of 68 to help secure the Florida High School Athletic Association 1A state championship in November, the Tallahassee Democrat<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

FSU wooed Charlie from choosing other elite collegiate golf programs, such as Stanford, where his father played, and his sister, Sam, is a freshman.<\/p>\n

During the Hero World Challenge in December, Tiger Woods told the media that recruiting players now is a \u201cvery different\u201d process.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been very different, the recruiting process,\u201d said Woods, per ESPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, you have cellphones. We didn\u2019t have cellphones. We would have written letters that would show up in the mailbox. It\u2019s just very different how fast coaches can communicate with the family members and the player that they\u2019re trying to recruit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a different world. Not saying it\u2019s good or bad, it\u2019s just different,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

FSU has big-name alum<\/p>\n

The golf program at FSU has produced a number of big-name golfers, including Brooks Koepka.<\/p>\n

At age 11, Charlie became the youngest competitor to compete in the PNC Championship in 2020 while playing with his father. The pair finished as runners-up to John Daly and John Daly II.<\/p>\n
