DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After the first day of Speedweek at Daytona International Speedway <\/p>\n

<\/a>, two things are known: which driver will start first in Sunday’s DAYTONA 500, and which will start second. <\/p>\n

Qualifying consisted of two rounds on Wednesday <\/p>\n

<\/a> with the top 10 fastest single-lap speeds transferring into the second round to battle for the pole. <\/p>\n

Three Hendrick Motorsports <\/a> drivers – Alex Bowman, Kyle Larson <\/p>\n

<\/a> and Chase Elliott – made the final 10. Ultimately, Bowman turned in the sixth-best lap at 49.152 seconds with Larson right behind him at 49.158. Elliott’s second-round lap of 49.22 placed him ninth in qualifying. <\/p>\n

Finalizing the starting grid for the DAYTONA 500 is different than any other race <\/p>\n

<\/a> on the Cup Series schedule. While Wednesday’s single-lap runs determined the front row, the rest of the field will be set in Thursday night’s Duel at DAYTONA races. All drivers who ranked in an even-numbered qualifying spot on Wednesday will compete in one 150-mile race on Thursday. All of the odds will race in another. The finishing order of those two races will set the odd and even rows behind the front row. <\/p>\n
