It was Team Canada\u2019s first multi-medal day at Milano Cortina 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Good friends Mika\u00ebl Kingsbury<\/a> and Eliot Grondin<\/a> both won silver in their respective events and Courtney Sarault <\/a>put Canada\u2019s second short track speed skating medal on the board.\u00a0<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a look at the news of the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n Freestyle Skiing<\/p>\n Mika\u00ebl Kingsbury<\/a> captured the silver medal in the men\u2019s moguls event, earning the fourth Olympic medal of his career in the process.<\/p>\n His score of 83.71 in the super final tied Cooper Woods\u2019 mark, but the Australian was awarded gold due to a higher score for turns, which served as the tiebreaker to separate the two competitors.<\/p>\n READ: So close to gold, Kingsbury delivers a historic performance at Milano Cortina 2026\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Julien Viel<\/a> finished sixth in the super final with a score of 79.78 points. After competing in the second qualification round, Elliot Vaillancourt<\/a> made it to the first final round, finishing 14th with 76.85 points. Viel and Vaillancourt were both making their Olympic debuts.<\/p>\n Snowboard<\/p>\n In men\u2019s snowboard cross, Eliot Grondin<\/a> won the silver medal in a dramatic final in which all four competitors traded positions.<\/p>\n Leading the race in the final turn, Grondin saw Austria\u2019s Alessandro Haemmerle edge him out at the finish line by just three one hundredths of a second. It is Grondin\u2019s second straight Olympic silver medal in the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: \u201cNo regrets\u201d for Eliot Grondin en route to silver\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Liam Moffatt<\/a> and Evan Bichon<\/a>, meanwhile, saw their runs end in the \u215b finals. Bichon ended up in 17th place overall, while Moffatt placed 28th.\u00a0<\/p>\n In women\u2019s halfpipe, Elizabeth Hosking<\/a> was the lone Canadian in the final. She finished 11th after being unable to land her final trick on each of her three runs.<\/p>\n Short Track Speed Skating<\/p>\n Courtney Sarault<\/a> managed to capture the bronze medal in the women\u2019s 500m by passing the Netherlands\u2019 Selma Poutsma in the final turn of the last lap.<\/p>\n READ: Sarault adds to collection with first Olympic medal<\/a><\/p>\n Kim Boutin<\/a> finished fifth in the A final while Florence Brunelle<\/a> won the B Final to place sixth overall.\u00a0<\/p>\n On the men\u2019s side, William Dandjinou<\/a> and F\u00e9lix Roussel<\/a> had to settle for fourth and tenth place respectively in the 1000m. Dandjinou had been executing well in the A Final until a slight slip in the last lap.<\/p>\n Hockey\u00a0<\/p>\n Both national teams won their games today by identical 5-0 scores.<\/p>\n On the men\u2019s side, Canada defeated Czechia in a match that marked the return of Canadian NHL players to the Olympic Winter Games.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: Team Canada defeated Czechia to open men\u2019s Olympic hockey tournament<\/a><\/p>\n Macklin Celebrini<\/a>, Mark Stone<\/a>, Bo Horvat<\/a>, Nathan MacKinnon<\/a> and Nick Suzuki<\/a> scored for Team Canada while Jordan Binnington<\/a> made 26 saves for the shutout. Connor McDavid<\/a> also had a strong night with three assists.<\/p>\n On the women\u2019s side, Team Canada came out on top in their postponed matchup against Finland.<\/p>\n Emily Clark<\/a> stood out by scoring two goals in the game and Ann-Renee Desbiens<\/a> stopped all 14 shots directed her way.<\/p>\n READ: Team Canada closes women\u2019s hockey preliminary play with win over Finland<\/a><\/p>\n This win confirmed Canada\u2019s second-place position in Group A. Troy Ryan\u2019s squad will face Germany in the quarterfinals this Saturday.<\/p>\n Curling<\/p>\n Team Canada opened the women\u2019s Olympic tournament with a big 10-4 win over Denmark, a game that ended in handshakes after the seventh end.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: Rachel Homan\u2019s third bid for an Olympic medal off to a positive start<\/a><\/p>\n Cross-Country Skiing<\/p>\n At just 20 years old, Alison Mackie<\/a> achieved Canada\u2019s best ever Olympic result in a women\u2019s 10km freestyle event. She finished the interval start race in 24:07.1, good for eighth place.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: Canadian Olympic best ever result for 20-year-old skier Alison Mackie<\/a><\/p>\n Liliane Gagnon<\/a> finished 17th in 24:37.6, Sonjaa Schmidt<\/a> was 34th in 25:22.2, and Katherine Stewart-Jones<\/a> placed 47th in 26:01.7.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speed Skating \u2013 Long Track\u00a0<\/p>\n Isabelle Weidemann<\/a> just couldn\u2019t quite find the gear she needed to get on the podium in the women\u2019s 5000m. She finished fifth in 6:50.08, 3.74 back of the bronze medal.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: \u201cI fought the whole time\u201d: Weidemann gives her all in 5000m\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Laura Hall was the other Canadian in the event. She finished ninth in 7:02.90.\u00a0<\/p>\n Skeleton<\/p>\n Josip Brusic<\/a> made his Olympic debut with the first two runs of men\u2019s skeleton taking place. The 23-year-old is in 24th place with a total time of 1:56.54.\u00a0<\/p>\n Alpine Skiing<\/p>\n It was a tough day on the slopes in the women\u2019s super-G.
