\u201cBrockville? Easy: fudge,\u201d Naomi Snieckus, creator of the comedy anthology series I\u2019m Also Here, said in an interview Thursday.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Mally Kourt Fudgery is the setting for the Brockville instalment of the six-episode series, which premiered\u00a0on Bell Fibe TV1 on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Produced by Firecracker Department and C\u2019mon Mort Productions, the comedy series was filmed last summer in six eastern Ontario communities \u2014 Brockville, Cornwall, Arnprior, Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, and Cobourg. Each episode drops into a pocket of everyday life and plays out a warm and witty comedic scenario in a short production.<\/p>\n
Without wanting to give too much away, Snieckus notes: \u201cBrockville is about a hold-up in a fudge store.\u201d<\/p>\n
Created by an entirely female and nonbinary team, the project saw the involvement of six directors, four writers, and 12 actors who leaned into the idea of bringing artists together with a shared vision to create something fun. The production also\u00a0included a mentorship component that aimed to support emerging artists alongside established creators.<\/p>\n

Eastern Ontario featured in comedy series I’m Also Here, premi\u00e8ring Feb. 12<\/p>\n <\/a> City still in grip of Movie Madness<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n Snieckus, who is also the show\u2019s producer, an actor in it, and the founder of Firecracker Department, said the team met great people in each town or city it visited. Each episode is intended to shine a light on the community it was filmed in by recognizing that sometimes the city or town may be overlooked, but each has so much to offer.<\/p>\n The first line in every episode is the slogan associated with the town or city, with Brockville\u2019s being \u201cThe City of the 1000 Islands.\u201d<\/p>\n The mentee writers were given the task of researching the different communities, and the beloved downtown fudge shop was one of a few options submitted for Brockville, said Snieckus.<\/p>\n Advertisement 4<\/p>\n This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n Along with Snieckus, the Brockville episode, which runs for nine minutes, stars actresses Quancetia Hamilton and Linda Kash. It is written by Wendy Litner and directed by Allana Harkin.<\/p>\n \u201cThe towns definitely became characters unto themselves,\u201d said Snieckus.<\/p>\n While comedy is the show\u2019s calling, it\u2019s not about making fun of these different places, added Hamilton.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had to respect where we went,\u201d she said. \u201cThe people were just wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n Both women appreciated how accommodating the Fudgery was to the production, as well as the interest the shoot received from the people passing by.<\/p>\n \u201cJust the whole vibe of that store, it\u2019s such a collaboration,\u201d said Snieckus.<\/p>\n The short, low-budget episode was also a blast to film.<\/p>\n Advertisement 5<\/p>\n This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.<\/p>\n Article content<\/p>\n \u201cAll the characters have just so much fun,\u201d said Hamilton.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you read something and you laugh out loud, you know you\u2019ve got something.\u201d<\/p>\n The shoot was also brief, with everyone coming in the night before, beginning at 6 a.m. and taking the day to get it done.<\/p>\n \u201cIt didn\u2019t feel rushed,\u201d said Hamilton.<\/p>\n \u201cIt felt like we had time to bring those characters to life.\u201d<\/p>\n Brockville, of course, is no stranger to the screen.
