The film will focus on the singer’s life, legacy, and music, and a press release emphasizes that it is “not a Mamas & The Papas biopic.” It will also “[lay] to rest the long-standing urban legend of how she tragically died at the age of 32” by choking on a ham sandwich. Emma Forrest is writing the screenplay, and there’s not yet a director. It’ll be produced by Veritas Entertainment, which was behind the recent acclaimed Bob Dylan biopic.

In 2024, Owen Elliot-Kugell published a memoir about her mother, the Mamas And The Papas’ Cass Elliot.
