Rory McIlroy certainly had an up-and-down round on day one of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, carding a 68, but had the misfortune of double-bogeying a couple of holes heading for home, while Shane Lowry is a shot better off after his 67.<\/p>\n

McIlroy, playing on Spyglass Hill course, got off to a lightning start, birdieing his opening two holes at 10 and 11 before holing out from a greenside bunker for eagle on the 14th.<\/p>\n

The Masters champion turned in 31 but his progress was derailed as he three-putted for double bogeys twice in three holes at the third and fifth, both par threes.<\/p>\n

These were preceded by birdies at the second and fourth and he concluded his round with a birdie on nine to get back to four under, six adrift of the lead.<\/p>\n

LEADERBOARD<\/a><\/p>\n

At the Pebble Beach Links, Lowry posted three birdies before dropping consecutive shots on nine and 10.<\/p>\n

He recovered strongly down the stretch, with four birdies in his final seven holes.<\/p>\n

This included back-to-back birdies to finish, with Lowry plonking his tee shot on the short 17th inches from the hole before draining a 12-footer for birdie on the famous par-five 18th.<\/p>\n

The 2019 Open Champion signed for five under leaving him tied for 19th.<\/p>\n

Leading the way is Japanese player Ryo Hisatsune after a stunning 62, leaving him on 10 under, with the American duo Keegan Bradley and Sam Burns a shot further back.<\/p>\n

Tony Finau, Patrick Rodgers and the in-form Chris Gotterup sit two shots off the lead.<\/p>\n

It was a rare off-day for world number one Scottie Scheffler limped to an even-par 72 at Pebble Beach.<\/p>\n

“I feel like typically I’m good at scoring, and today I felt like I didn\u2019t score at all,” Scheffler said in quotes on the PGA Tour website.<\/p>\n

“Anything that kind of went wrong seemed to be going that direction. I actually feel like I\u2019m playing pretty well.
