{"id":472400,"date":"2026-02-13T13:03:19","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T13:03:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/472400\/"},"modified":"2026-02-13T13:03:19","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T13:03:19","slug":"over-700-recycling-pickup-zones-accidentally-omitted-in-mississauga-brampton-and-caledon-mayor-brown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/472400\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 700 recycling pickup zones &#8216;accidentally omitted&#8217; in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon: Mayor Brown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 700 pick-up zones \u201caccidentally omitted\u201d from the province\u2019s new Ontario-wide recycling contract will now be serviced in Mississauga, Caledon and Brampton, Mayor Patrick Brown says.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in the new year with the goal of bringing uniformity to residential recycling collection across Ontario, the program created confusion as to what types of items can and can\u2019t be recycled.<\/p>\n<p>There have also been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/new-blue-bin-recycling-program-off-to-rocky-start-in-mississauga\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">complaints about missed collections and poor communication<\/a>, and Brampton\u2019s mayor says over 700 pickup zones were initially missed in the province-wide roll out.<\/p>\n<p>Brown said he has met with the company that services the Region of Peel recycling pickup for Circular Materials, the non-profit company tasked with unifying the way curbside recycling across Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey informed me that, when Circular Materials took over under the province\u2019s new system, 735 pickup zones in Peel were accidentally omitted from the new provincial contract,\u201d Brown said in a post on social media this week, adding that the company \u201cnow has authority to service them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the shaky start, Brown said he\u2019s \u201coptimistic\u201d that the early issues with the recycling changeover \u201cwill be resolved moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidyard-player-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1770987797_789_awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu.jpg\" data-videoid=\"790139\" data-uuid=\"awZCW3rPmWvxPqZHnBCKLu\" data-v=\"4\" data-type=\"inline\" data-muted=\"1\" style=\"width:100%\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p>        <img width=\"1024\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Screenshot-2026-01-30-at-1.55.02-PM-1024x513.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\"  decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>      <\/p>\n<p>Starting next month, the Circular Materials recycling program will undergo another shakeup,\u00a0only items placed inside recycling blue bins will be collected.<\/p>\n<p>That means blue recycling bags, large cardboard boxes and other items left outside of the bin will not be picked up.
