While Team Canada didn\u2019t add to its medal count on Day 7, there were plenty of exciting results.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Stephen Gogolev delivered a glorious performance in figure skating, the men\u2019s hockey team won again, Canada\u2019s young cross-country skiers continued to surpass expectations, and Ted-Jan Bloemen bid a beautiful farewell to the speed skating oval.<\/p>\n

Figure Skating<\/p>\n
The outcome of the men\u2019s singles event was not what anyone would have predicted. Stephen Gogolev <\/a>performed a near flawless free skate to place second in that portion of the competition with 186.37 points. Added to what he got in the short program, he totalled 273.78 points to move up from 10th to fifth place overall. He ended up just 1.12 points away from the podium. That is Canada\u2019s best Olympic result in men\u2019s singles since Patrick Chan<\/a>\u2019s silver medal at Sochi 2014<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ:\u00a0Stephen Gogolev caps Olympic debut with immaculate free skate<\/a><\/p>\n The shocker of the day was two-time reigning world champion Ilia Malinin of the United States dropping from first place after the short program to place eighth overall.\u00a0<\/p>\n Hockey\u00a0<\/p>\n Team Canada secured top spot in Group A of the men\u2019s hockey tournament with a 5-1 win over Switzerland. Macklin Celebrini<\/a>, Nathan MacKinnon<\/a> and Connor McDavid<\/a> each had multi-point games to lead the Canadians. Goaltender Logan Thompson<\/a>, making his first Olympic start, made 24 saves in the win. The team will play their final game of the preliminary round on Sunday at 10:40 a.m. ET against France.<\/p>\n READ: Top line leads Team Canada to win over Switzerland\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Speed Skating \u2013 Long Track\u00a0<\/p>\n Ted-Jan Bloemen<\/a> had a \u201cbeautiful goodbye\u201d to speed skating, getting to compete one last time in front of his wife and children. After his ninth place finish in the men\u2019s 10,000m\u2014the last race of his illustrious career\u2014he took a lap around the oval to bid farewell.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: Team Canada\u2019s Ted-Jan Bloemen closes another chapter on his \u2018life\u2019s work\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n Cross-Country Skiing<\/p>\n Another day, another breakthrough performance for a young Canadian cross-country skier. Tom Stephen<\/a> finished ninth in the men\u2019s 10km free, having never cracked the top 20 in an individual event on the FIS World Cup circuit. He clocked 21:30.3 in the interval start race. R\u00e9mi Drolet <\/a>finished 19th in 21:50.8 and Max Hollmann<\/a> placed 23rd in 21:56.9.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: Breakthrough Olympic Games continue for young Canadian cross-country skiers<\/a><\/p>\n Curling<\/p>\n Team Jacobs is 3-0 after getting two wins on Friday. They started the day with a 6-3 win over USA and finished it off with a 8-6 win over Sweden.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: Jacobs continues success against Edin to keep Team Canada unbeaten<\/a><\/p>\n Team Homan dropped their lone game of the day, falling 9-8 to the USA.\u00a0<\/p>\n READ: Fleury remains confident after U.S. ends Canadian women\u2019s Olympic curling win streak<\/a><\/p>\n Snowboard<\/p>\n Audrey McManiman<\/a> was eliminated in the \u215b finals of women\u2019s snowboard cross, ranking her 17th overall.\u00a0<\/p>\n Biathlon\u00a0<\/p>\n Adam Runnalls<\/a> was the top Canadian in the men\u2019s 10km sprint, finishing 31st in 25:02.5. Zachary Connelly<\/a> placed 48th in 25:33.5, Logan Pletz <\/a>was 55th in 25:46.7 and Jasper Fleming<\/a> came 80th in 26:46.1. <\/p>\n With their results, Runnalls, Connelly and Pletz were among the 60 men to qualify for the 12.5km pursuit that will take place on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Skeleton<\/p>\n After the first two runs of women\u2019s skeleton, Jane Channell<\/a> is in 15th place with a total time of 1:56.22. Hallie Clarke <\/a>sits 20th, clocking 1:56.73.
