{"id":474413,"date":"2026-02-14T12:02:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T12:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/474413\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T12:02:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T12:02:10","slug":"world-title-fight-set-for-april-for-gervonta-davis-old-belt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/474413\/","title":{"rendered":"World title fight &#8216;set for April&#8217; for Gervonta Davis&#8217; old belt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/gervonta-davis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gervonta Davis<\/a> was stripped of his WBA lightweight world title and a date for a clash for the now vacant belt has been confirmed, with one of boxing\u2019s most exciting prospects involved in the bout.<\/p>\n<p>Davis was winless since June 2024 prior to being stripped, with his lone outing since being a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/44076175\/davis-roach-fight-majority-draw-knockdown-controversy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">debatable draw against Lamont Roach Jr last March<\/a>, that almost cost him his undefeated record.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, a number of external issues have been behind the inactivity of \u2018Tank\u2019, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/wba-on-gervonta-davis-after-warrant\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">issued with an arrest warrant issues based on charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the WBA have decided to demote Davis to champion-in-recess, meaning that their lightweight title is now vacant, but that Davis will be well poised to challenge the new champion upon his return.<\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUpFK7hAG6K\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Instagram<\/a>, the WBA\u2019s number one contender, 23-year-old Floyd Schofield, has revealed that he will be fighting for the vacant title in April.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe been through the fire to get to this point in our life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have so much more to do and so much more life to live.
