\n\tJournalists at Berlin Film Festival<\/a> wasted no time asking Callum Turner<\/a> about rumors that he\u2019s the next James Bond at the press conference for his new film \u201cRosebush Pruning<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 35-year-old British actor \u2014 whose name has been swirling as Denis Villeneuve preps his first Bond movie for Amazon \u2014 was questioned on the topic just a few minutes into the presser, with the reporter acknowledging that it could be good to \u201cget it out of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou\u2019re right, it\u2019s very early for that question,\u201d Turner said with a slight smirk. \u201cI\u2019m not going to comment on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTurner\u2019s co-star, Tracy Letts, then took some heat off him by adding, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, I\u2019m the next James Bond!\u201d to much laughter from the room. Turner replied, \u201cTracy, I thought you weren\u2019t going to say anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBond was back on the menu in another question just moments later, when director Karim A\u00efnouz was asked what a 007 movie that he directed would look like. Letts again jumped to the rescue, saying that A\u00efnouz was directing \u201cmy James Bond.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film\u2019s starry cast also includes Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Elle Fanning, Lukas Gage and Pamela Anderson<\/a>. All were on hand at the Berlinale press conference besides Keough and Fanning.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe panel was also inevitably asked about politics, which is always a hot-button topic at the Berlinale but has been avoided by many celebrities this year. Letts continued that trend, saying: \u201cI can\u2019t speak for other artists, I don\u2019t necessarily feel comfortable taking away from the work that I\u2019ve done. Obviously, it\u2019s an awkward thing to discuss because of our political situation .. but one thing this movie gets at is that this disparity of wealth breeds bad behavior and, in fact, creates fascism.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cRosebush Pruning\u201d follows four American siblings as they \u201cwallow in isolation and their inherited fortune, eschewing the demands of their blind father and seeking love and validation through each other and their latest designer clothes,\u201d according to the film\u2019s synopsis. \u201cWhen Jack, the eldest brother and linchpin of this family, announces that he is moving in with his girlfriend Martha, blood ties are severed and Ed is forced to uncover the truth surrounding their mother\u2019s death. Generational lies begin to unravel, and the fabric of this family slowly begins to disintegrate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film was written by Yorgos Lanthimos collaborator Efthimis Filippou, who penned the scripts for \u201cDogtooth,\u201d \u201cThe Lobster,\u201d \u201cThe Killing of a Sacred Deer\u201d and \u201cKinds of Kindness,\u201d and loosely based on Marco Bellocchio\u2019s 1965 film \u201cFists in the Pocket.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an exclusive interview with Variety <\/a>previewing the film, A\u00efnouz said that he hopes to spark a conversation with the film\u2019s dark themes, which include incest, sexual abuse and murder. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOnly through absurdity can you perhaps touch certain issues,\u201d he said. \u201cI think\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0important to know and to discuss and to understand that\u00a0sometimes the\u00a0biggest amount of violence comes from within the family. The way that patriarchy has been naturalized, it\u2019s\u00a0really something that we need to deal with.
