{"id":475129,"date":"2026-02-14T20:27:28","date_gmt":"2026-02-14T20:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/475129\/"},"modified":"2026-02-14T20:27:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-14T20:27:28","slug":"jade-jones-former-olympic-taekwondo-champion-to-make-boxing-debut-against-egypt-criss-in-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/475129\/","title":{"rendered":"Jade Jones: Former Olympic taekwondo champion to make boxing debut against Egypt Criss in March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Two-time Olympic taekwondo champion Jade Jones will make her boxing debut in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 32-year-old former Team GB star will take on American celebrity Egypt Criss in Derby on Saturday, 7 March on the undercard of a bout between middleweights Ty Mitchell and Gabe Rosado.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Welsh fighter Jones will be in the boxing ring for the first time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/olympics\/articles\/cdjyxxx03g3o\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">exactly 12 months since announcing her change of sports.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She became a star of the 2012 London Olympics by winning taekwondo gold at the age of 19 and went on to defend her title four years later in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Jones also competed at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and in Paris three years later, became world champion in 2019 and is a three-time European champion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Criss, 27, is the daughter of hip-hop stars Anthony &#8216;Treach&#8217; Criss from Naughty by Nature and Sandra &#8216;Pepa&#8217; Denton from Salt-N-Pepa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two-time Olympic taekwondo champion Jade Jones will make her boxing debut in March.
