{"id":475451,"date":"2026-02-15T00:10:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T00:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/475451\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T00:10:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T00:10:09","slug":"two-clips-from-shoresy-season-5-that-sell-it-way-better-than-hulus-new-trailer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/475451\/","title":{"rendered":"Two clips from Shoresy season 5 that sell it way better than Hulu&#8217;s new trailer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Look, we\u2019re just going to come out and say it: Hulu\u2019s just-released trailer for the fifth season of Jared Keeso\u2019s extremely good hockey comedy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.avclub.com\/shoresy-season-2-recommends-hulu-letterkenny-1851006390\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shoresy<\/a>\u00a0isn\u2019t great. It\u2019s short, for one thing, consisting of just a 30-second monologue from Keeso\u2019s title character. And, worse, it\u2019s neither funny nor heartfelt\u2014two of the things that make Keeso\u2019s\u00a0Letterkenny\u00a0spin-off so special\u2014instead simply focusing on Shoresy\u2019s sadness about the plight of North American hockey. (Is it possible someone looked at the massive success of\u00a0Heated Rivalry, also originally released on Canadian streamer Crave, and simply came to the conclusion that it was the hockey that people were excited about?)<\/p>\n<p>\ufeff<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, there are a\u00a0lot\u00a0of clips of\u00a0Shoresy\u2018s fifth season floating around online right now (on account of the season debuting in Canada back over the holidays), and so it\u2019s still possible to construct a pretty good sales pitch for the new run of shows\u2014which follows its title character as he transitions from hockey player to hockey coach while the Sudsbury Blueberry Bulldogs face a brand new set of challenges on the ice\u2014from officially released materials.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>For instance: Take the above scene from the season\u2019s first episode, which sees Shoresy take a young player he previously mentored aside and give him a very Shoresy-style pep talk: Lots of heart, a bit of violence, and just a touch of vulgarity. It\u2019s a fantastic showcase for the work Keeso has done in taking a character who originally existed, back in the\u00a0Letterkenny\u00a0days, as a faceless walking \u201cYour mom\u201d joke, and making a surprisingly lovable hero out of them.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Which makes for a nice contrast with a sneak preview clip that the show released for the season a few months back, which dives head-on into the show\u2019s good-natured ability to run the dirtiest jokes it can think of straight into the ground. We\u2019re not saying everyone\u00a0is going to enjoy a convoluted, frank, multi-room conversation about various hockey players\u2019 approaches to masturbation; just that it\u2019s a pretty good representation of what the show\u2019s humor looks like when it\u2019s working at full tilt.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, we\u2019d just hate for someone to walk away from the official trailer thinking this series was a series of dour monologues about the spirit of violence in hockey. (That\u2019s in there, but it\u2019s not all the show is.)
