Rosie O\u2019Donnell secretly returned to the United States on a reconnaissance mission following President Donald Trump\u2019s threats to revoke her citizenship<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI recently went home for two weeks and I did not really tell anyone. I just went to see my family,\u201d the comedian recently told Chris Cuomo during an appearance on \u201cSiriusXM\u2019s Cuomo Mornings.\u201d <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to see how hard it would be for me to get in and out of the country,\u201d she added. \u201cI wanted to feel what it felt like. I wanted to hold my children again. And I hadn\u2019t been home in over a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former talk show host also shared that she had practical reasons for the trip.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to seem my family,\u201d she told Chris Cuomo. Getty Images<\/p>\n

\u201cI also wanted to make sure that it was safe for me before I brought my daughter this summer, where we plan to spend the summertime off from her schooling here with my family,\u201d she further explained. <\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell \u2014 who left the states in January 2025<\/a> with her youngest child, Clay, 13, for a life in Ireland \u2014 is also mom to adult kids Parker, 29, Blake, 25, Chelsea, 27, and Vivienne, 22. <\/p>\n

She said she experienced \u201ca very different country\u201d upon her return, admitting that \u201cfor a year, I haven\u2019t been watching the news.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been in a place where celebrity worship does not exist,\u201d she said, adding that life in Ireland gives her \u201cmore balance.\u201d She also told Cuomo that she doesn\u2019t \u201cregret leaving at all.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI think I did what I needed to do to save myself, my child and my sanity,\u201d she explained. O\u2019Donnell, 63, described the \u201cenergy\u201d she felt while visiting the US as \u201cscary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a feeling that something is really wrong, and no one is doing anything about it,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe View\u201d alum and Trump have been feuding for years \u2014 but the rift, caused by opposing political views, came to a head when the president took to his Truth Social platform in July 2025 to threaten the actress\u2019s US citizenship<\/a> with a strongly-worded screed.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of the fact that Rosie O\u2019Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,\u201d he wrote at the time. <\/p>\n

Trump took to Truth Social in July with a threat to revoke O\u2019Donnell\u2019s citizenship. MediaPunch \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n

The president labeled her a \u201cThreat to Humanity.\u201d AP<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA.\u201d <\/p>\n

In an Instagram post, the comedian responded with strong words of her own. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe president of the usa has always hated the fact that i see him for who he is \u2013 a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself \u2013 this is why i moved to ireland,\u201d she\u00a0captioned the upload in part. <\/p>\n

She added that she stands \u201cin direct opposition all [sic] he represents,\u201d and asked \u201cu gonna deport all who stand against ur eveil tendencies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump and O\u2019Donnell have been feuding for years over their opposing political views. 12.4.96<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell vowed she would \u201cnever\u201d renounce her US citizenship, despite her 2025 move to Ireland. Instagram\/rosie<\/p>\n

Adding the hashtag #Nevertrump, she concluded the post by labeling the president a \u201cbad joke who cant form a coherent sentence.\u201d <\/p>\n

Also in July, O\u2019Donnell took to TikTok to declare she would \u201cnever\u201d<\/a> give up her citizenship. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not that worried,\u201d she insisted in the fiery video rant. \u201cHowever, the\u00a0Supreme Court has given him unbridled powers.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said she \u201cwill always be\u201d an American, adding, \u201cI will never renounce my American citizenship. I am waiting happily for my Irish citizenship so that I can be a dual citizen, but I will never renounce my American citizenship.
