For a time, he held the Olympic record with his time of 34.26 seconds, but it was later beaten by the men who won gold and silver. Photo: Greg Kolz\/COC<\/p>\n<p>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/2026\/02\/14\/an-example-of-perseverance-laurent-dubreuil-wins-the-long-coveted-medal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">An example of perseverance, Laurent Dubreuil wins long-coveted medal<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The defending Olympic champions looked in great shape in the quarterfinals of the women\u2019s team pursuit. <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/ivanie-blondin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ivanie Blondin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/valerie-maltais\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Val\u00e9rie Maltais<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/isabelle-weidemann\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Isabelle Weidemann<\/a> posted the fastest time, 2:55.03, to advance to the semifinals. They\u2019ll face the United States in that head-to-head battle on Tuesday, with the winner moving on to the race for gold and silver later that day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speed Skating \u2013 Short Track<\/p>\n<p>It was another tough day for <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/william-dandjinou\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">William Dandjinou<\/a>. In the final of the men\u2019s 1500m, he appeared to be well positioned to make a move for the podium, but a small bump from another racer cost him all momentum. With great closing laps by <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/courtney-sarault\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Courtney Sarault<\/a>, they finished in second place in their semifinal. <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/kim-boutin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kim Boutin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/danae-blais\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dana\u00e9 Blais<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/florence-brunelle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florence Brunelle<\/a> were with her in that semi.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The day also included the heats of the women\u2019s 1000m. Sarault, Boutin, and Brunelle have all advanced to the quarterfinals on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hockey\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Captain <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/marie-philip-poulin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marie-Philip Poulin<\/a> returned to the lineup to help Canada defeat Germany 5-1 in women\u2019s hockey quarterfinal play. Poulin netted her 18th career Olympic goal, tying her with <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/hayley-wickenheiser\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hayley Wickenheiser<\/a> for the most all-time. <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/brianne-jenner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brianne Jenner<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/claire-thompson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Claire Thompson<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/sarah-fillier\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Fillier<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/olympic.ca\/team-canada\/blayre-turnbull\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blayre Turnbull<\/a> also had goals.
