It might have been a record for the shortest-tenured record holder of all time.<\/p>\n
Quebec City\u2019s Laurent Dubreuil was ever so briefly in line to win Canada\u2019s first gold medal. Not only that, but he set an Olympic record in the process.<\/p>\n
Skating in the men\u2019s short track 500-metre finals, Dubreuil ripped off the starting line, leaving his race compatriot Cooper McLeod of the United States in the dust.<\/p>\n
By the time he finished his race, he had set an Olympic record. Dubreuil\u2019s time of 34.26 seconds beat the previous mark of 34.33.<\/p>\n
However, the record-setting feat was short-lived.<\/p>\n
When the United States\u2019 Jordan Stolz and the Netherlands\u2019 Jenning de Boo stepped up to the line, they authored races that narrowly beat Dubreuil\u2019s record.<\/p>\n
Both skaters finished first and second respectively. For a few minutes, it looks like Dubreuil might not medal at all.<\/p>\n
Thankfully, even though he lost his record-setting\u00a0time in a matter of minutes, the 33-year-old still came home with a bronze medal.<\/p>\n
Pretty impressive stuff, considering he wasn\u2019t a medal favourite heading into the event.<\/p>\n

Then, looks like he might not medal at all.<\/p>\n

However, he did win a silver medal in the men\u2019s 1000-metre short track event back in 2022.<\/p>\n Canada now has eight medals total, including five bronze medals.<\/p>\n They\u2019re still searching for that elusive gold.<\/a><\/p>\n
